STAR TREK WAS BRILLIANT! I LOVED IT SO MUCH!

There were so many awesome things about this film. I thought the cast was brilliant, I did have my doubts about a couple of people but they were all awesome! You didn't have to be told who they were when you met them, it was obvious, they'd obviously all studied their predecessors and they did a fantastic job. And not only did they get the casting right character-wise, they got the right dynamic between the characters too.

Zachary Quinto was bloody AMAZING as Spock; god, he was perfect. I... just... ♥ SO SO GOOD.

And Karl Urban! My god, he was brilliant, he was Bones. He had the mannerisms, the inflections, everything.

I thought Chris Pine did a stunning job as Kirk; he had the right balance of cocky, flirty, devil-may-care attitude with determination and gravitas when the situation called for it. I thought he stayed remarkably well-clothed throughout as well, I'd expected him to lose his shirt at some point (hello, Kirk, but his shirt didn't even get ripped!

Leonard Nimoy ♥ I love him so much. It was wonderful to have one of the old crew passing the baton to the new crew, as it were. I loved the little chat between old Spock and baby Spock at the end. And I adored the chat between old Spock and baby Jim on the ice planet - with Spock being all 'you're really good friends' and Jim being all 'no way, dude'. ♥

And my GOD did the lay on the slash at the end there. There were hints of it (and by hints I mean big fucking clues) in old Spock and baby Jim's chat. But then at the end it was as subtle as being hit over the head with a sledgehammer. I feel that that was appropriate.

The film was beautifully done; the effects were spectacular, I thought the direction was great and it was beautifully put together. It was hilarious too, I giggled and giggled. They obviously figured that Star Trek, especially the original series, is a large enough part of pop culture and sufficiently well known, even by people who don't like Trek, that they could just roll off the in-jokes and rely on that fact that people would get them. At the same time, they would make the fans happy, I certainly was.

And finally, I LOVED, LOVED that they kept the voiceover at the end as to boldly go rather than to go boldly (stupid Enterprise!). Yay for split infinitives.

I went into this film knowing that I would love it because it's Star Trek and I couldn't help but adore it. But I wanted to like it for more than the fact that it's Trek and I wasn't disappointed, it was incredible. ♥

I'm definitely going to have to see it again!
