This
press release has made my day!
JENSON HAS A DRIVE FOR NEXT YEAR! ♥ ♥ ♥ (And he's reportedly taken a 50% pay cut in order to make it possible!)
The Honda F1 team is not going to vanish completely; it's been bought by Ross Brawn. There were rumours floating around, but it's now been confirmed. The team will be called Brawn GP, the cars will be powered by Mercedes engines, and they are keeping both Jens and Rubens.
I... Just... *flails* Oh, BOYS! This makes me so happy :)
I've never been much of a team supporter, it's more the drivers that I support; there are some teams that I like more than others, but I've never been a particularly loyal team fan. But ever since I went to the Honda open day a couple of years ago, I've had the hugest soft spot for them; everyone I met there was so AWESOME, so giving of their time, so interested and interesting and excited to share what they did with the fans for a day. I can't not love them to bits.
So the news that Honda F1 was to be no more made me sad. Not only did it mean bad news for Jens and Rubens in terms of race prospects for this year, but it meant bad news for all those awesome people who made up the rest of the team. There's no news on how many job cuts there will be at Brackley, I imagine that they will have to downsize, but this is better than no team at all.
And I am so glad they're keeping both drivers because I love both Jens and Rubens and I'd be upset not to see them on the grid this year. Also, given that it's now only three weeks until the start of the season, they'll be wanting all that experience in order to get ready, they don't want to bring in a rookie at this late stage. And I imagine that consistency within the team will help them cope with all the other craziness that is going on around them.
\o/ SO EXCITING!
