OH KIMI! ♥ ♥ ♥ Kimi, Kimi, Kimi!

I am so pleased for him. He's come so close so many times, and would surely have been world champion once if not twice in the past had he had better reliability at McLaren - just think of all those engine blow-ups he had at McLaren, some just laps from the end of a race. It's a richly deserved world championship. Though, I confess, although it was (obviously!) possible, I had not expected it to be Kimi who walked away world champion; Lewis or Fernando, sure, but not Kimi, there was too many ifs! He looked kinda surprised too! Clearly happy, he was punching the air with his fists in his car, and he was grinning on the podium and in the press conference (he was quite animated in the press conference, for Kimi anyway), but he also looked kinda shocked, and like he hadn't really believed that it was possible, despite obviously telling himself that he could not be counted yet and that he still stood a chance. So very happy for him!

I am gutted for Lewis though, poor guy. He's been leading since May and he lost it today. But WOW, what a season! At the beginning of the year, I would have been impressed by few podiums and a pole position or two - that would have been classy. A win? Wow, amazing! To do what he has done, to have 12 podiums, 4 of which were wins, numerous poles and to have lead the championship for most of the season and finally finish second. And above all that he's had to deal with intense media scrutiny and all the political bullshit that surrounded the spy scancal. Oh. My. God. That boy has some serious talent and he has impressed me so much with his maturity and level-headedness, both on and off the track.

Fernando, on the other hand, has not impressed me this season with his expectation that as world champion he should get preferential treatment - he wants to be top dog then he's got to get out on that race track and earn it, not stamp his feet and throw his toys out of his pram when he doesn't get his way. He's clearly still got the talent and the thirst for fight on the race track, some races this year really proved it, but he can't expect it to be handed to him on a silver platter, and he's got to play nicely with the other kids too. I imagine that he'll be pleased to have lost to Kimi and not Lewis at the end of the day, and I imagine that the same is probably true for Lewis too.

In other news.... FOURTH PLACE FOR NICO! Oh wow. His pass on Heidfeld and then Kubica were pure class. The BMWs have been definitely best of the rest this season and have been really strong, for him to have beaten them both and come in fourth was pretty special. I hope this in an indication of how things will lie next year. He was amazing today, really racy and he drove beautifully.

Poor Jenson was let down by his crappy, crappy car again. And Rubens too. I'm so glad for the whole Honda team (who I still absolutely love and adore after their open day) that this season is over now and they can say goodbye to that horrid car. Look forwards to the future, boys and girls, and build a super-fast-awesome car! I want to see Jense back up the sharp end, with poles and podiums and wins. And poor Rubens - this is the only season that he has never scored any points! WTF!

I was so pleased for Felipe that he got pole yesterday in front of his home crowd. Bless him :) It was a shame that pitstop shuffling meant he couldn't take the win too, but he was still up on that podium. He drove well today, for sure.

This was a really exciting race today, a great end to the season. And a fitting end for a season that has been so dominated by scandal on and off the track and so much politics. Today it was about the racing and just about the racing - that's how I like it and that's how it should be.

I'm upset for Lewis but so excited for Kimi! Oh Kimi. ♥

I'm going to miss my motorsport over the winter. Is it March yet?
