Better late than never... my thoughts.
Overall, I thought it was quite a dull race.
Generally, rain = exciting racing. But too much rain = boring.
Safety is paramount and must obviously come first, second and third; they were right to start behind the safety car and stay behind it for as long as they did, I'd much rather that than someone being injured or worse in a crash that could have been avoided with the right precautions, but... it did make for some rather boring racing. I was lying on the sofa, cocooned in my duvet, all nice and comfortable and toasty warm... had I not been chatting on Skype with only half an eye on the "racing" I would definitely have fallen alseep!
Even when they were allowed to race there wasn't very much action, everyone tiptoeing nervously and trying to keep it on the road. Apart from Kimi, of course, who just flew and kept pushing, pushing, pushing the whole way through. He was fun to watch. It really says something for the Ferraris if he felt comfortable enough to throw his car around like that in such conditions and trust it to still be there when he was done.
I was absolutely GUTTED for Mark Webber. Poor, poor Mark. He has the worst luck of any F1 driver I have ever seen. He drove a great race and he was looking really good for not just points but a podium! I was thrilled for him. And then Sebastian Vettel went and hit him off the track :( Mark looked furious, and he sounded it too when Louise caught up with him; I can't say I'm surprised. My heart broke for him.
My heart broke again when they showed Sebastian Vettel head (and helmet) in his hands and crying. He buggered up Mark's race that was shaping up so well, and screwed his own chance at a first podium - good on any day, but especially noteworthy in those conditions and that would definitely have wowed the paddock. Yeah, he fucked up BIG TIME and I was angry at him for ruining Mark's day but... poor kid. I was quite surprised (and sad actually) that it was caught on camera, I would have though t he would have found somewhere quiet and private to break down.
Lewis was amazing, once again. I was going to say peerless, but I think Kimi did an amazing job too. I was gutted that Fernando went out: a) I love Fernando, b) the end of the championship won't be nearly so interesting with such a big gap between Fernando and Lewis. I really like them both and I don't care who wins the championship, just so long as it's exciting!
I will be thrilled if Lewis does win though, and with a 12 point lead, it's looking pretty good for him too! I can't believe what he's done this season, he's been incredible.
And I can't believe the season is nearly over, only two races left; and this close to the wire, things are really hotting up. China should be good!
