Show % Performance Management Policy

Here's something that annoys me.

I think it's this at-will employment thing.

I would probably be happier working for a union.

So we've got this policy here called, "Show % Performance Management Policy," and I'm supposed to review it, sign it, and turn it in to my supervisor. It's just a two page document spelling out all the different circumstances in which I can be fired. That's cool. I like having clear written procedures. I like to know exactly what's coming to me, and of what I'm expected.

However, in most of these documents or handbooks, there is a section that says, "this whole policy is bullshit, and we can change the rules any time we want and make up some kind of pansy excuse to fire you if we want to." I mean, that's cool and all. Sometimes people need to be fired for no good goddamn reason. But why go through all the trouble of creating some sort of policy, if you're just going to create a clause that will make the entire thing pointless? Why should anyone have wasted their time writing the policy, and why should I waste my time reviewing it, if it's all meaningless, circumstantial drabble?

5. CHANGES IN TOUR CONCERN MANAGEMENT POLICY
This policy and procedure document is for informational purposes only and is subject to change with or without prior written and/or verbal notice, according to the needs of Wyndham Vacation Ownership and its team members.

Well, shit. If they'd made that article 1 instead of article 5, I could have saved myself the time and trouble of reading articles 1-4. There are following articles 6 & 7, and I'm just skipping over them.

Signed it, turned it in. Yeah, I get it. You're still in charge.

trendwest, work
