Ok i have strong opinions on Doctor Who, let me just rein myself in a bit so i don't scare you off!
Doctor Who is huge and long and has a lot of history but you don't have to watch everything from the last 50 years to get it. A lot of people look at a show that has 50 years of stuff and just keep going but you can pick and choose what you like and you'll still be able to enjoy it. I personally haven't watched very much of anything made before the reboot in 2005.

If you like sci-fi in general it is a really good show. If you like England/The UK it is a good show. Most of the episodes that are on earth are in the UK somewhere. It is a little bit off the wall, especially the first couple of episodes of the reboot, but that is part of it's charm honestly. Talking trees, aliens, flying pepper pots with death beams, a 900+ year old alien that acts like an excited child all the time.

I really like that the characters have depth and grow and have personality and differences. This is something Russel T. Davies was really good at, if you are going to watch it you should start with him, he was the show runner for the reboot, the first Doctor he wrote for was Christopher Eccleston, he also wrote the David Tennant years. The first episode is called "Rose." "Nice to meet you Rose, now run for your life!"

It's got weird sci-fi stuff, it's got humor, it's got love, friendship, fear, hatred, revenge, crazy people and weird adventures.

50 years? Wholly crap I stumbled onto a mammoth! lol I do enjoy sci-fi and the UK so this is already looking like a good fit! I mean who doesn't want to see talking trees, aliens, and flying pepper pots with death beams... lmao!

I will deffo come back to you when I want to start watching and you may kindly direct me to the best place to get started (ie. if available online to preview, where, but ultimately which DVDs to buy :D ) Thanks again for your explanation. I see soooo many people excited about Doctor Who. I love movies so I'm always looking out for new things to watch :D
