I meant to post this sooner.
This last Saturday, I went to work as usual at Yankee Candle at Lakeside Mall. When I arrived, I had a little company...to say the least. When I started walking from my van to the side entrance near Macy's Men/Home, I felt this really strange presence, like someone was watching me. I turned around, and there, on the grassy median was a Canadian Goose. No big deal. THey typically don't freak me out or anything, and they usually just fly away if you get too close anyhow. I figured since I was 5-10 feet away from it, no harm done and he was just being curious.
Here's where it gets interesting. For seemingly no reason, this bird gets up and starts walking towards me and starts hissing. They are pretty huge so I just walked the other way, kind of chuckling to myself. As it kept following me, my private chuckles became audible and I could see a few people laughing at the scene as well. I wanted to see what would happen, so I stopped walking and turned around...the goose stopped walking too. I turned to walk forward again, and the goose proceeded to walk right behind me, a little faster than before, still hissing. Now what seemed cute was starting to make me a little uncomfortable, so I walked a little faster. So did the goose. I picked up the pace a bit more. He was right on my tail. I looked behind me and all of a sudden this goose starts flapping its wings while walking towards me, obviously trying to scare me away. I'm thinking, "Oh shit! I'm a vegetarian. I can't just take my shoe off and start clubbing this bird! What should I do?" I decided I needed to get out of this bird's territory and started running for the entrance. He decided I was making an assault on his territory, flapped his wings even harder, got lift-off, and proceeded to dive bomb my head. I literally had goose feet scratching at my scalp. I was running, screaming, and trying to cover my head all at the same time. And those people who were laughing at the situation before? Yeah they all just stood there, jaws wide open in sheer amazement. Fun story!
