A beautiful visitor

I've been meaning to post this pic for a year. We get hawks in our yard who hunt the birds who come to our feeders. This fellow showed up last winter, but I lacked the software to edit the jpg. It's a completely different thing seeing them in their own world. I'm out in the middle of nowhere so I see them quite often. Most of the times when I don't have my camera handy. Like on my way to work I'll spot one on a fence post maybe a car length away from me! LOL

Here's a pic I got of one a while back. Apparently I still have it on my laptop. lol

Wow! He's beautiful! A different breed than I see around here. Besides the Northern Harriers, I've seen Red-tailed Hawks as well. And once I saw a Bald Eagle on a telephone pole! :DDD

XD I'm not entirely sure what kind he is. I actually thought he MIGHT be a Red-tailed. Or Red-breasted... but that's just stating the obvious. I'm sure he's got a proper name. lol

OMG bald eagles are amazing to see. But even more amazing are their nests. When I was younger and took a trip to JFK Space Center in Florida we saw them. THEY ARE HUGE. I remember the lady on the bus saying they can fit 6-8 small children in them. And we were a good bit away from the tree line and still the nest looked enormous. Of course I'm sure as a child it looked much larger to my eyes, but still, 8-10 ft in diameter is pretty darn big!

I read in our paper a few years ago that a bear took up residence in one of the eagle nests along the river here. That's a big nest! :D
