The Waiting Game

Torchwood knows just where every single person in the country lives, but Jack has to let himself wait sixty years before he contacts Estelle again.
Anything less, she's probably going to suspect something.
In December 2001, on the anniversary of the day they met, he rings her doorbell, running through what he’s going to say in his head. Then she opens the door and Jack almost forgets what he wanted to tell her.
“Estelle Cole?” he manages to say, after looking her over for a couple of minutes.
“Yes,” she says, and more than a hint of something goes across her eyes. “How can I help you?”
“I’m Captain Jack Harkness, ma’am. I think you knew my father during the war,” he says, when all he really wants to do is take her in his arms, hold her close.
But he can’t, not today, at least. He has to play a part, no matter how much it might hurt.
“Captain, would you like to come in and talk?” she asks, significantly brightening and standing to the side of the door, a smile on her face.
“Thank you, Estelle,” he says, grinning, and walking inside.
One little step on a path he’d thought could be lost for good.
He is not going to mess this up.
