Last week, Jeff tried to start an IV, but was unsuccessful. So, today, he had to try again, and I was sooo nervous for him. He let me watch, and his hands were shaking the whole time. But he did it! So I was pumped, and I knew I could do it.
Alright. My dude came in. He was an ass. So I didn't do it.
Then my girl came in. She had really small veins on both hands, so I went into her ACF. I really didn't want to go in her elbow, but she had a nice vein there. At first I went in and got nothing, but I pulled back, and there it was. A flash!! I've never been happier to see blood. The anesthesiologist even commented on how nice the site looked. I followed her through into surgery, she had a right sialithotomy..removal of a stone in her salivary gland. Then, I was with her in recovery.
I got to take the IV out! That was a little more bloody than starting it. I told my instructor I had done it last semester, so she wasn't all up in my grill about it. I forgot to clamp off the IV first, so blood spurted out a little, but it wasn't too bad.
ahh I'm so excited!!
