Hipsters and mommy bloggers. They took it from IKEA Hack (the overlap between engineering hacks and DIY housewives) and started applying it to everything else. I say this as someone who used to read a lot of DIY housewife blogs for reasons; I think I actually witnessed it happening.

I feel like it happened when "startup" culture (SanFran tech people) mixed with Internet proto-journalists, and there was language bleed.
