Mittagong
Funny place Mittagong.
Lion Rampart Hotel
I decided to go down early for the Day at the Green, and my accommodation was cheap enough that I could do that. In fact it was a good budget hotel all round, even though I had to share a bathroom with the other women. It was easy enough to find my hotel and check-in, though there was a punter having a beer at reception and when I said my surname was "Seabrook" he said "You don't look like a Seabrook" to which I replied "I bloody well am!".
It was hard to fun stuff to do. I'd just arrive a 4pm and the tourist information shop had just shut. I had a look at the map and noticed a "Katoomba Lookout" on top of Mt. Alexander so I walked up (and I do mean UP) a bush track to check it out. At the top was a great view of the Blue Mountains, and also one of the bypass! A few hours latter I came down drenched in sweat and stumbled on to Lake Alexander for a rest (who was this Alexander?).

Ate at KFC at the shopping centre on the outskirts of town (it's modern, has a Woollies, a Big-W and they're building an ALDIs next to it). Also drank about 2 litres of juice as well. Went back to the hotel, had a shower, read a book and dropped off into a deep sleep. Next morning I had breakfast at Maccas (which I seldom, if ever do) while the Ulysses motorbike club ate there. I had a look about and did some laundry back at the hotel. Most of the old style shopping area centres around an intersection with a war memorial but offices and new stores are being built all over town. Seems like a boom period (although they like to have ornamental lamp posts everywhere).

Went to the concert (see a separate post) and had a good time. Slept well again after reading more of my book (Rubicon by Steven Saylor). The next morning (Monday) I was finally able to eat a decent breakfast at a coffee shop, and went for a quick walk from one of town to the other. Didn't take long. Then I caught an early train home. It was a wet and cosy day travelling back. The sort of trip I really enjoy. :)
And that was Mittagong - a sort of cross between a tourist trap and a retirement village. Nice, but next time I'll try to go to the Hunter valley Day on the Green.
