You know it's going to be a terrible job when you are hired for a job you like -- only for it to be telemarketing.

Happened to me in 1992 -- I found a job for a secretarial position at a membership catalog showroom. Or, it was to be "secretary" -- when I was told to read a solicitation script, I had bad vibes. Later, I got my first assignment -- cold calling customers about joining a membership shopping club. I got hung up on left and right -- after one hour, I told the boss that "I quit". He tried to talk me into staying, but I said that isn't for me, so I left.

Of all the bad jobs in the world, telemarketing is the worst, as it drains your spirits like a hole in your car's gas tank.

Well that's the thing isn't it?

Originally the job wasn't any such thing like that - I was working on real paper publications, like the W.A. Yearbook. But there was a period where all of that got automated and "printed on demand" so there was no need for such services much longer. I saw the writing on the wall, and the last thing I needed at that point in my life was to answer the phone 40 times a day and get "Hello SIR".
