Passing on a Special

I've been very tempted (and Kevin was encouraging me) to buy a Digital Notepad on special at ALDI (see right). It's features are (for $A 159):
  • Convert handwritten notes and drawings into JPEG or TEXT format
  • 32MB internal memory for up to 100 pages of notes
  • Includes wireless ballpoint pen
  • Works with high gloss (DIN) A4 paper
  • Includes software and USB cable

However it pays to do a bit of research first with stuff from ALDI. I did a search on the net and found a discussion about it on a tech board and here on BloggEd! The second one was quite revealing, as it showed that while the device works, it only has six levels of sensitivity, has very dated software drivers, and finding pen replacements was a major problem.

But the real nail in the coffin was doing a simple search and finding a Genius G-Note 7000 V2 A4 Digital Notebook for $A 119. Golly - looks a lot alike, doesn't it?
  • Professional device for meetings, note taking, or presentations.
  • 8.5”x11” working pad, suitable for A4 paper.
  • Uses digital note and tablet functions.
  • Cordless pen for digital note and tablet.
  • Built-in 32MB memory can store up to 100 pages, SD memory card slot available.
  • Transfer digital pages to PC via USB cable for editing, organizing or sharing by e-mail

So I think I'll pass on the special. especially when it costs more than the original it seems based on!
