Yesterday I caught the local bus on an all day ticket for $2.50. Going to see if I can today as well (I thought they were only giving this to Aged Pensioners).

Might make a difference to keeping the car or not.

Off to uni now (by bus).

I don't know what they do there, but in QLD if you're a student you can get a Tertiary Transport Card that allows you to catch buses and trains at cheaper prices.

I am not sure how the money converts, but in DC a 1-way subway trip costs a minimum of US $1.20 (possibly more depending on the distance and if it is rush hour). If you go off-peak though (9:30 AM - 3:30 PM, the weekends, and the last few hours at night) you can ride the trains all day for something like US $5. That rate is available to everyone.
