Hi, everyone! I just started watching Battlestar Galatica and I am SO in love with Lee/Laura...even with the developments in Season 2 and 3. I mean the best ships are the ones you have to fight for even when the fans and the writers are against you :) So I'm in it for the long haul even if things turn out differently in the series! Here's my first story. It's kind of rough but it's a beginning. More of a realistic take on their situation but still lots of Laura/Lee love :) Enjoy!

Too Late
Lee Adama never thought he would fall for an older woman. Truth be told she was old enough to be his mother. And yet he could not deny the connection between them. Maybe it was the knowledge that he would never be able to consummate this relationship...maybe he was looking for something much deeper than a one night stand...or maybe she just had that effect on every man she met. He would not have been surprised if it was the latter.
Lee had never believed in fate. He was like his father... a practical man who respected the beliefs of those who adhered to the gods of Kobol but not one for religion himself. That was before he met her. From the first moment she called him "Captain Apollo" he could feel an inherent connection. The rapport was immediate and needed no explanation. She understood him...without saying a word or having a single conversation, she knew him...not the hotshot pilot everyone thought he should be...not the commander’s son who was never quite good enough that others saw him to be...but the real Lee. The one who felt things deeply and was trying to find his own way outside his father's far reaching shadow. She believed in him...and because of that...he believed in her.
Despite this attraction to the president, he could not deny his connection with Kara Thrace. However, the difference between the two relationships was like fire and ice. Kara ignited a flame of passion that he had never experienced with any other woman. It was electric and sent his pulse racing whenever he was in the same room with her, never knowing if he should just arm wrestle her or kiss her. It was the passion of the young and the natural response of being near an attractive woman overflowing with sexual energy...but it was not something that would stand the test of time. He knew this and understood this, never willing to take their relationship beyond their one brief encounter. And still...a part of him burned for the fire and passion she brought into his life every time they met.
When contrasting his connection with Kara to his connection with Laura, Lee found it was more magnetic than electric. She drew him to her without even trying for she was a cool oasis in the middle of a desert and he would travel for miles just to drink from those waters. Though he admired her strength in the midst of adversity, he recognized her vulnerability and instinctively knew when she needed him by her side...and when she must stand alone. Her office and her female pride would never tell him that she needed a knight in shining armor to protect her back but he fell into the role of her protector with ease. Though she never addressed this additional role he played in her life, he knew she was grateful for his presence by the touch of her hand and the look in her eyes.
The most difficult part for Lee was the fact that he knew his father was also attracted to the same woman. He would never have thought the no nonsense, battle hardened admiral would ever fall in love again. The relationship Adama had had with his mother had not been passionate but he had been faithful and had had no plans of starting another after the divorce...until he met Laura. The younger Adama understood there were things his father had to offer that he never could...things that only come from age and experience as well as the shared burden of leadership during a troubled time. He had seen the way his father softened in her presence and the way she had responded in kind, no longer a president but a woman. It was then he knew it was not meant to be. It had taken a long time...more time than he would have liked...but he had finally realized why he was meant to have met Laura Roslin but never move beyond the bounds of a deep friendship.
There was an old Earth legend of a god named Apollo who fell in love with a woman named Daphne. However, fate prevented them from ever consummating their love for the gods turned her into a laurel tree as punishment for the forbidden relationship. From that point on, Apollo swore that he would never let his love for her die and kept this promise by taking the leaves of the laurel tree and wearing them as a wreath around his head that he would never remove. It was only later that he learned that Laura means "laurel leaves" in Latin. With this knowledge in hand, Lee finally realized that she was meant to be with him always...maybe not in this lifetime...but certainly in the ones to come. Hope to post more in the coming months!
