Cords Of Love Steele Bind Part 2

Jul 26, 2011 23:39

This like everything I share is posted with much thanks and love to Helen.
Helen, for your help, encouagement and inspiration I thank you very much, I wouldn't be able to write at all if not for you and everything I write is for you. I appreciate and love you very much, Lee.

After Carl and Misty had left Laura placed the now sleeping Sophie into her stroller, smoothly adjusting it into it's recline position at the same time.  Straightening up she then slipped her arms around Steele's waist and looking up at him smiled. "You're wonderful, do you have any idea how wonderful?"

"Well I have my suspicions but why do you say so? I mean I appreciate the sentiment but I find it easier to see such qualities in you."

"You're doing it again, you just always know the exact thing to say to make people feel better, to put their mind at ease."

"I didn't help much with those two, they are no closer to finding Bert than they were before they arrived."

"But they feel better about it and you managed to put them at ease without solving the case, that to me speaks of a person more helpful, more interested and a lot more compassionate."

Steele bent and kissed his beautiful wife, he sometimes wondered if she had any clue as to how amazing she was.

"Laura, in my eyes you are the wonderful one. If I say the right thing it's because of you. It's essential to me to not say anything that could wound. The power of words far surpasses that of the sword, I know that from experience both good and bad."

"Why is that because of me?"

"You always see the best in me and always make me feel wonderful yet want to be even better. It's one reason why it's imperative to me to always say the right things to you, always choose my words carefully so as not to hurt you."

"That sounds exhausting, you should know that you can say anything to me, nothing is unforgivable."

"I do know and I appreciate it more than I could ever express, perhaps that's why it's so important that I never hurt you even by mistake because believe me it would never be my intention."

"I know." Laura smiled at him. So many of the old wounds of the past had been healed and so many covered over. She felt that love covered a multitude of things and she herself could relate to the feeling of saying the wrong thing. The truth was the sentiment was always right, how it was expressed could miss the mark. In her mind she saw a quick succession of memories each one a snapshot of time and now they played in her head like a short film, the story of times her words had somehow taken on a new meaning or had slipped out unchecked.

"Care to make a deal with me?"

"A deal?" Steele said laughing.

Laura smiled again, enjoying the sound. She wondered if she would ever not feel she had accomplished something magnificent simply by making him laugh or even smile, she hoped not, it was a feeling she cherished.

"Yes a deal, let's promise to do our best to remember we only ever want the best for each other and always see the best in each other. Anytime our words sound like or make us think that's not the case then let's be sure to always discuss it."

"I'll take that deal and raise you with this. Always remember how much I appreciate and cherish you."

"And I you."

"Now my gorgeous wife, have I got a Steele of a deal for you."

"Will I like it?"

"You will love it."

"Such confidence, it must be good."

"Better than good, wonderful."

"I think I like it already what is it?"

"Let's take Sophie home and spend some time with her and then without her, in the morning we'll talk to Carl and hopefully be able to plan what to do about Bert."

"What are your thoughts about it? Do you think something untoward has happened to him?"

"I really don't know, my first instinct is that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation."

"And your second?"

"I try not to think about that especially since..."

"It is so out of character isn't it? And it would take something big or serious for him to ignore them."

"My sentiments exactly. They're like family to him, a chosen family."

"Well all the more reason for us to uncover what is happening or with luck not happening."

"Are you quite sure? You really don't mind us doing this?"

"It seems extremely important to you."

"It is, perhaps it's the thought of a man without a family being given a second chance, or the thought of another young family having to do without an important member, I'm not sure. But yes it is important to me."

"Then it's important to me, anything important to you naturally becomes important to me too."

In reply Steele held his perfect wife close. She always made him feel so cherished.

"Now who is proving they always know the perfect thing to say?"

"All I said was how I feel. That's all."

"Perfect my love, you can never go wrong with that."
