I seriously never write in this anymore. I need to get back to blogging since my new part-time job will be requiring me to blog once a week. I'm actually super-excited about that.
Lately I've noticed:
Sometimes free is not better.
I picked up free shampoo somewhere last year, and it's the nastiest smelling, worst shampoo I've ever used. I almost dumped it out without using it up, but the thrifty person in me wouldn't let myself. I also noticed the brand...it was a "name brand" shampoo. Ridiculous. Just ridiculous.
Sometimes cheaper is better.
I buy really cheap conditioner (Suave) and use it for shaving cream. It's amazing. It works better, is less messy, and lasts way longer, and I never get razor burn.
Which brings me to what I've been thinking about a lot lately. Before the whole "green"/live naturally trend really caught on, I was noticing and trying to do things to cut the clutter, stop generating so much trash, and live more healthy and simply, I guess. I haven't gone overboard, at least not to my definition of the word, but I have decided I am going to try to learn something new or begin a new habit that has something to do with one of the above categories I mentioned. Hopefully, I'll start blogging about it on some sort of regular basis.
I'm not sure which category this falls into, but we travel with Apollo kind of a lot. Now that we are married, it's not nearly as often as it was before. However, he makes visits to grandma's house probably about once a month, at least. I have grown a little weary of "packing his things" every time we go, which generally consists of filling a bag with "x" amount of dog food, throwing his rubber bone and a few treats into his (empty) water bowl, and trying to remember the few other little things he has that he occasionally needs. It is just annoying when we are packing for a weekend trip to have to remember his things as well. I know that is normal for parents, but seeing as he's a dog, I hardly want to have to think of him as a child in this way. There really shouldn't be that many things to pack that we can't keep all together all the time anyway.
My solution: create a doggie travel bag (much like a diaper bag, but much smaller, if you get what I'm trying to say). Apollo now has a bag where we will always keep his brush, bone, "poop" bags, a few treats, etc. so when we go places, all we have to do is grab the bag! The only exception is if he goes somewhere other than my parents, we will have to pack dog food. They keep dog food at their house for their "grandpuppies." What about a water bowl? It will never fit in the bag and would be so bulky and such a hassle. Aha, but I discovered an ingenius idea.
Somebody supremely smarter than me discovered that a shower cap works wonders as a travel dog bowl. I have tried it, and it is amazing. For free (if you can get one from a hotel) or 50 cents at Wal-Mart, you can have a water bowl for your dog wherever you take him! Maybe this is widely known, but it's news to me! I'm excited because it will be so super easy to pack or stick in my pocket when we go on walks.
