Frustrated and tired Judge Donnelly sat down on the chair front of the slain ADA's desk
"Detective, I really don't think the key is in this office, perhaps you should call her parents and ask for access to her apartment?"
Standing in the middle of the office with her eyes following the outline of every shelf, cabinet and compartment olivia hoped she;d see something she hadn't seen before. The detectives eyes fell onto the picture of Casey and her ex boyfriend Charlie.. The picture had been a fixture in that office since Casey first joined the SVU team. A moment of wistfulness washed over the detective, and she walked to the corner file cabinet and took the frame into her hands. She fondled the frame and wistfully looked at the young women who was smiling in the picture, knowing that the smile she held in her hands would be the only way she'd see casey novak smile ever again. A moment frozen in time, at that moment she thanked God for the camera's ability to capture such images. As she ran her fingers around the frame, she noticed a very worn spot where the back of the frame came out. It looked as if the picture had been changed out on a daily basis. Knowing this was not the case, the detective's investigative instincts kicked into high gear.
"Look at this Judge donnelly", liv said showing her the back of the frame
Donnelly was clearly not impressed, , "so detective, she needed a new frame?"
olivia opened the back of the frame. A small silver key fell out of the holder and onto the carpetted floor of the office.
"I'm guessing that's why you're the detective and I'm the judge", Donnelly said wearily.
Olivia took the key and opened the bottom left hand drawer, in it rested a black laptop that olivia was sure held the information she was looking for.
She turned to Donnelly - "i'm going to the station and I'm taking this with me?" the detective said in a questioning tone.
"Fine, that means I can go back to my bed. Oh look its 3 AM thanks detective, I'll get two hours sleep. I'm sure my court will appreciate you wholeheartedly.. Don't forget to lock up before you go".
with that the judge trudged out of the office leaving Olivia behind.
