HA! I laughed at the little quotes you gave from the book. This sounds like a really fun read. I'll be looking for it. Thanks for the recommendation!

I was told to read Pym because she was a mixture of Trollope and Austen. While I enjoyed this book very much, it did not reach the heights of Trollope or Austen. Frankly, the three other Pym books I read after this one were very disappointing. Unlike Mildred the other characters rarely had any moral center. Still, after all these years I can remember the second half of her definition of an "excellent woman"... "Someone with no axe to grind". Wish I could remember the first half!

I enjoyed that book very much. I tried another Pym book but couldn't get into it.
