Character Information
Name: Penny Day
Nickname/aliases: None
Canon: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Canon Type?: Musical internet movie?
Character's LJ: laundryfan

Brief history of your character: Penny was born to an average, middle class family, the only child of Henry and Elizabeth Day. She lived a happy childhood with them until she was eleven, when her parents were both killed in a car accident. Penny spent the rest of her teen years living with an aunt who resented that she suddenly had to take care of a kid she hardly saw, and let Penny know it every chance she got. Because of this, Penny grew up to be depressed, with low self-confidence.

Once she was old enough to leave, Penny moved to LA. Seeing those who were less fortunate than she helped her get past her grief and self-pity, and in time those feelings were replaced with concern for others. She began volunteering, and eventually was a part of several charity-based organizations, one of which she was partially in charge of, known as the Caring Hands Homeless Shelter.

One day while collecting signatures to open a new homeless shelter, Penny met Billy, who was secretly Dr. Horrible, and Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible’s nemesis. Believing that Captain Hammer saved her from a runaway van, she became infatuated and the two began dating. What she didn’t know was that Captain Hammer was dating her mostly to infuriate Billy, who had a crush on (or as some would say ‘was stalkerishly in love with’) Penny.

In a move to get Penny to sleep with him, Captain Hammer got the mayor to give the homeless shelter the new building they’d been campaigning for. It was during this time that Penny was beginning to suspect she was less happy dating Captain Hammer than everyone seemed to think she should be, but it wasn’t until his speech at the opening of the homeless shelter that she saw him for who he really was. She tried to sneak out, but stayed when Dr. Horrible attacked Captain Hammer. When the two fought, shrapnel from Dr. Horrible’s exploded gun stabbed her, and she died only moments after realizing that her friend was really the super-villain Dr. Horrible.

Brief synopsis of your character's personality:
Penny, although very friendly, tends toward being a little on the shy side. She usually can get past this enough to talk to people she doesn’t know, but has a hard time approaching people (outside of volunteer efforts), and is usually noticeably awkward when talking to someone new.

Despite her tragic past, Penny tends to be very optimistic and hopeful. However, this does not necessarily mean she is always happy, and she often experiences loneliness, frustration over the state of the world and the apparent apathy of it’s occupants, and low self-confidence. While she has a difficult time talking about anything personal with someone she doesn’t feel completely comfortable with, she frequently overlooks a person’s flaws in an attempt to see the good, meaning she often puts her trust in the wrong people.

Penny extremely loyal, caring, and is the friend that you can always count on to be there for you, no matter what. She almost always puts others first, to the point where it’s almost a flaw. However, just because she’s sweet doesn’t mean she’s afraid to give some tough love when it’s needed. Her feelings can be easily hurt even with the smallest slight, and even though she holds it in and tries to act like nothing’s wrong, it’s easy to tell by her expression that when she’s upset.

Intro Post

“It’s okay. Captain Hammer will save us.”
Penny woke up with a start, breathing heavily, a cold sweat over her body. She covered her face with her hands and leaned forward, trying to calm her breathing. Just a dream. It was just a dream, she repeated to herself. It had seemed so real. She let out a small laugh, remembering the part where Billy was Dr. Horrible. How had her brain managed to make that up? She smiled as she let her hands fall to her side. He was one of the sweetest guys she’d ever m-

That thought was forgotten as she saw her dress. It was the same dress she had worn in her dream, but more importantly, it was ripped. And covered in blood. “Oh God,” she said aloud, a hand over her mouth to stifle a small sob. Very slowly, she made herself touch the torn fabric on her stomach, pushing it away to see the skin underneath. A large jagged scar was revealed, the puckered pink line contrasting sharply against her pale skin. Tears welled up in her eyes as she used both hands to look underneath the second tear over her heart, tracing the scar that spread up her chest with her fingers. “It…Was it real?”

Penny went to grab for her phone, and it was then she realized she had no idea where she was. In her shock, she hadn’t realized she was sitting on the floor of a house she had never seen before. “Can anyone help me?” she called out, only to be met with silence. When she pulled her legs towards her chest, she noticed an envelope with her name on the front. Frowning, she opened it to find a map, as well as a key with 203 stamped on the front. In front of her was a door that led to the outside. Maybe she could find a way out of this place?

Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, she stood and wrapped her sweater around her, ready to figure out what was going on.
