After not speaking to anyone out loud yesterday (I spent the whole day at home), I went out to see a friend in town this morning. Despite training for the 10k race next month several times a week, walking can still be a tricky, and I almost tripped over my own feet on the bridge that crosses the Aura-river right next to the Cathedral. Ahem... Anyway I got into town without further incidents and met up with Marika. We went to a few shops in town to see if they had the English version of MS Office for her computer, and then went to have a cup of coffee. After that was done, she and I walked to one of the buildings of Åbo Akademi (the Swedish speaking uni in town), as Marika was going to meet a friend there.
I walked out of the gate, and almost walked into a guy who was kneeling on the curb, with both arms raised in the air. I doubt he was begging, as his hands seemed to be raised in supplication rather than begging, and he was muttering something under his breath. He wouldn't have been out of place at the medieval fair that's held in town each summer, as he was dressed in what looked roughly like a brown sack. On the ground next to him was a plastic bag with a stick poking out of it. I didn't stay to observe him, as that would have felt too rude. It would have been interesting to know what he was doing though.
