1. why finnish? XD
Asked in reference to my username, which is Finnish for "I sing." :D Why did I choose one in Finnish? BECAUSE FINNISH IS AWESOME. I studied it for a little while, and it's a seriously beautiful and fascinating language. I'm really interested in languages--their quirks, how they're made up, put together, born--and so Finnish is like a goldmine of intriguing details to me. Vowel harmony! Consonant gradation! Ten million cases! *fascinated sigh* Such an awesome language from an intellectual (and aural) point of view. Also, one of my irl bffs loves Finnish music, and has passed this love on to me. \o/ Finnish is awesome, and that's why Finnish. :D
And by the by! I realized probably no one knows how to pronounce my lj name, SO HEY, if you're curious you can
download a recording on Mediafire. (P.S. any Finnish readers, FEEL FREE to pipe up and correct my accent! I'm out of practice. :D)
2. what voice part do you sing, and what's your favorite piece you've ever sung?
I am a Soprano 1--though at the moment, I'm fairly rusty, so maybe a Soprano 2, hahaha. (For those of you who aren't choir nerds, Soprano 1 is highest, then Soprano 2, then Alto.) I started out singing Alto, so I love doing that, too, though. Alto parts are so pretty. :D I was fairly surprised my voice went high enough for Soprano 1 the first time I got placed there, lemme tell you. And oh god. Favorite piece I've ever sung, I COULD NEVER PICK ONE. Seriously, just about everything, I just love to sing so much. Ummm . . . IN GENERAL I like singing older stuff, like from before the fifties. Songs from the 20s-40s are AMAZING to sing, they just have this really really lovely visceral tonal feeling that I can never quite explain. We sang a nice medley from Porgy and Bess in my high school choir which I really enjoyed, for example.
3. how did you start doing AUYM and how do you find all the crazy shit you post there?
I honestly can't remember how it started! I think I'd seen people do link recs before and thought, "Hey! I have cool links too!" and wanted to post them over here. I just sort of decided it could be a weekly thing--and of course what better day than Monday? And then I made the Jared graphic and it all spiraled downward from there. XD So pretty much I'm just insane. There were a few months when I was working on my Big Bang that I stopped doing it, but after that I started it up and haven't missed a week since! \o/
Where do I find the stuff?
gypsy_sunday asked me this a couple of weeks ago, lol, and I realized the answer sounded really boring. IT'S NOT ACTUALLY THAT COOL, YOU GUYS. XD Basically, the links usually come from blogs or sites I read or from people I know irl, who send me cool stuff. I also regularly search out new blogs and sites so I can cast my awesome net more widely. So *shrugs* basically, I a) read cool sites, b) have cool friends, and c) always look for new things. (SEE. sounds so boring. /o\)
4. was it hard or scary for you to start posting your writing online? did you lurk in a fandom before you started writing or did you just jump right in?
Sort of! This lj isn't actually the first time I've posted stuff anywhere online, but this is the one where I actually care the most about the stuff I'm posting. So yes, it was hard, because I'm stupidly shy. *grin* I think it's always going to be a little hard for me to show my writing to people, though, because I'm a perfectionist and always fixate on what I should have done better. But hey, can't let that hold me back--I do eventually want to do this as a profession, after all. Gotta keep practicing.
Yes, I lurked in the Supernatural and J2 RPF fandoms for a few months before I started writing for either. I'm a lurker at heart, really. But these fandoms just looked too cool to stay out of, so I forced myself to get an lj and start participating. The idea of being part of such creative, productive, amazing fandoms was a siren song I couldn't ignore. Star Trek fandom, on the other hand, I pretty much just jumped into headfirst. (Though I did create an anon journal and only publically note that it's over at
singingintime a month or so ago, so does that even really count? *ponders*) I didn't have too much of a problem with that because it was ~NEW~ and everyone was pretty much in the same boat. :D I think lurking in a fandom before you join it is good; waaaay better to have an idea of the emotional landscape and history of it before you accidentally get into a war over something.
5. if you were a con man what color would your vest and fedora be what kind of crime (steal art, rob banks, etc.) would you perpetrate and why?
If I were a con (wo)man my vest and fedora would be charcoal grey, I would probably do . . . hmm . . . document forgery? My knowledge of con men pretty much comes from Catch Me If You Can, Ocean's 11, and White Collar, so uh, I don't exactly know. Document forgery seems to fit into my skill set! *grin* If I wasn't too lazy to pick up programming, I'd love to be Hardison from Leverage, though. I would also really enjoy doing the acting kind of con thing, where you convince people of things with the sheer power of your charisma. I'm a decent actress when I'm not letting my shyness hold me back. :D I'd probably do it for the thrill, mostly. That's the reason that's always made the most sense to me for cons.
And now it's YOUR TURN! Leave me a comment and I'll ask you questions back! (And then you can ask me questions back on your post, and it will be a vicious cycle. YAY.)
