Pastor Saeed, an American Pastor imprisoned in Iran
I think I've mentioned this on my journal before, and I also posted about it on the comm, christianfanfic, but I wanted to post it on my journal as well. For those of you who might not know, Pastor Saeed Abedini is an American citizen and Pastor who was taken by Iranian officials when he was visiting family in Iran. He was sentenced to an eight year prison sentence because he would not renounce his faith in Christ. He has been tortured and badly beaten, and they refuse to allow him to have medical care. Most recently, they moved him to the most violent prison in Iran, where his life has been threatened repeatedly by fellow prisoners.
As of today, he has now been imprisoned for 494 days. But, in the words of the ACLJ, (The American Center for Law and Justice, a non-profit, Christian legal organization) "...there is a glimmer of hope. Iran has indicated that clemency - release - could be a possibility for Pastor Saeed."
The ACLJ is currently working on a petition to demand that Iran grant this clemency to Pastor Saeed. If you'd like to sign the petition, or to learn more about Pastor Saeed, you can go here.
