And my heart just broke a little bit for Jim.

I did take him apart quite a bit, I admit it. But I wouldn't leave him there without at least trying to fix him up again.

I'm sure you wouldn't.

(Just a tiny thought... I know he *said* it, but I'd feel like Jim would have put more emphasis on why he'd initially said he was married to Bones - the fact that he HAD to check his condition, maybe pass it off as part of his responsibility as Captain, but also because Bones was his best friend and he couldn't handle NOT being able to see him with his own eyes. It just seemed too... brief of an explanation.)

Incidentally, that will come up again in the next chapter. Actually, I added it to this chapter as an afterthought because I thought I couldn't leave it out entirely, but the real conversation about it will happen in the next chapter. So it won't be glossed over, but I'm glad you pointed out that you thought it was too short because of course you couldn't know it was going to be picked up again. :D
