Reality Bites

Alright, well this week has been interesting. On Sunday night, I decided to look up on Bible.com about what exactly it says about "Suicide." Four days later, a sophomore at Saline High School commits suicide. Saline has gone through a lot in the last year with opening a new school, the passing of David, and now Jake. It's terrible that the kids at SHS have to go through this whole trauma again. It's one of those situations where everyone questions what they may have done wrong or what they could have done to prevent this tragedy.

While reading the page on Suicide, I found a lot of insight. There isn't a  specific indication of suicide in the bible, because God doesn't want people to think that they will automatically go to hell if they commit suicide or that they will automatically go to heaven if they commit suicide. God made us and never does he want us to feel like life is too hard to fight the good fight. He loves us unconditionally, forever and for always.

When I found out about another suicide happening in Saline, it made me realize just how much Saline lacks reality. We live in this sheltered little Bubble and it isn't until something this intense occurs that we begin to see what really happens in the real world. It hits home. Saline lacks racial and cultural diversity; it lacks certain aspects that us adolescents need to witness or experience before we head off to very liberal and very diverse areas. It lacks truth as well.

The one thing that I have noticed after leaving high school is how much more stuck up SHS students are. High School was fun for me, mainly because for the most part, we all got along. My Senior year was the best year, because despite all of our differences, we set them aside and had fun. It seems like after 04 left, the whole atmosphere of SHS changed. Girls started looking trashier and guys... well they were either PIMPs or weird. haha. High school now seems so foreign to me and that is so odd, being that I only graduated 2 years ago.

Basically, it's terrible that another suicide occured. It's terrible that there are suicides in general. When attempting suicide, guys are successful 90% of the time because unlike girls, they don't want attention or help... they want out..for good. When these things  happen, we have to evaluate ourselves whether or not we are kind and courteous. Going out of your way to saying "hey" to someone that not many people understand could make a difference, because it may save their life.

In the end, it's the little things that matter and it's those little things that can make a difference.. in a positive way.
