How fantastic was Doctor Who?

I've been fairly meh about this season (with the exception of The Doctor's Wife), but tonight I was in floods of tears. I loved older Amy - she carried a katana and hacked things and made her own sonic probe and told the Doctor what she thought of him and lived in complete isolation for 36 years without losing her mind. I am devastated beyond words at what the Doctor did to her, even though I can understand him not wanting to have a walking, talking paradox in the TARDIS. I kind of hope there's fallout from that next episode; I thought this one cut off a bit sharply and dodged the issue, though obviously they didn't have any time left over for that sort of thing and I wouldn't have wanted them to cut anything from the episode itself.

I liked how not-busy the episode was, too. It was amazingly minimalistic but it worked. It didn't drag, but it didn't throw you headlong into action-scene after action-scene, as the show's been tending towards lately. It was a lovely change of pace, truth be told, and the sort of storytelling I'd gladly see more of. Obviously I don't want every episode to be A Timey-Wimey Crisis In Amy And Rory's Relationship, but something more laidback and less driven by special effects was very welcome.

Anyway, just generally, squee! So awesome! End coherency.
