ok, i love jenny lewis as much as you, but why can't i get into acid tongue?! WHY?!?! I'VE TRIED! i love everything else she's done. i even thought her cover of handle with care was cute! i loved the wizard as a kid! fucking fred savage! AND jenny lewis! fuck! BUT WHY DON'T I LIKE ACID TONGUE?! :(
Like seriously, can you watch that video and not love that song?
I really wasn't sure about it the first time around, but it's really grown on me. I actually only listened to it for the first time this past weekend, driving home from Halifax.
But I can't listen to the first song, "Black Sand". I can't do a whole song with her singing in that range. But "The Next Messiah"? "Jack Killed Mom"? AMAZING.
All that being said, I still don't have much of a taste for Rilo Kiley, for whatever reason.
well i don't know what you have or haven't listened to, but i suggest two albums:
though i now it is not a fan-favourite, i actually liked rilo kiley's latest album, under the blacklight.
the lead-off track, silver lining is a bit slick and overly-pop, but is somehow still one of the catchiest songs ever! lewis' voice is sultry butter, plaintive yet emotionally disarming. the riff gets stuck in the head for hours, the refrain makes you want to sing along, and the beat! who doesn't love handclaps?! gold.
grooves right into the second track, close call, a great midtempo number with a fantastic bassline, and some crazy hilarious '80's styles guitar and vocalizing. again, lewis' voice shines. then one of my favourite tracks by them, moneymaker (check out the videos for silver lining and moneymaker on youtube). in moneymaker, jenny does her sultry singing, AND plays the funky bassline (check the live letterman performance on youtube). this makes me think "RHCP with a female singer." :P
