#20: Almost Kisses Picspam

Sep 30, 2008 13:36

This is a picspam of some of my favourite OTP's and their almost kisses. This is basically when there's all the build-up without the actual kiss (sigh) - think Ted and Victoria's drumroll in How I Met Your Mother, although they're not actually on this list. Neither is the kiss on the banner (since it ends in an actual kiss so by my own rules I can't include it), it's just here because it's pretty.

Honourable Mentions

Mal & Inara/Jim & Pam/Lee & Kara

For all their close talking.

The Top Ten:

#10: Dr. Harrisson & Sophy in Cranford [Part Four]

Cranford may have slipped under my radar when it first aired but once I watched it, it quickly became one of my (if not my most) favourite period drama and these two are a big reason behind that. They're so cute! The ranking of this scene is not at all in proportion to my love for them (I am, after all, the only person on LJ to have them as an interest :O); it's just that all the other scenes mean more to me and these two have a lot of other scenes that I love more than this one. Still, this little moment before they get interuppted by her sisters is really sweet.

#9: Robin & Marian in Robin Hood [1x02: Sheriff Got Your Tongue?]

Marian: Oh! What is it with men and glory? Glory above sense and above reason.
Robin: It is principle.
M: Principle is making a difference and you can't do that if you're dead. You could have stayed here in the first place instead of following your King to the Holy Land if you cared so much about your precious people, but you didn't. ...You chose war. You chose glory.
R: [leans forward] What is this about?
M: It is about you saying you care about the people of Locksley, when you ran off to battle thousands of miles away.
[Robin puts his hand on her cheek and she slaps it away.]
R: You had something on your cheek.

If this moment wasn't quite so fleeting (and they didn't have another that outshines it), it would probably be higher up, but this being so early on in the show they're still in that stage where most of their conversations consist of Marian being mad about the fact that Robin ran off to war and Robin being a flirt. But I really love this and how even though Marian's angry at him she shows up to break him out of jail but still takes ages to scold him for getting there in the first place - and then starts to talk about them but pretends she's taling about 'the people of Locksley'. And once he realises he gets all 'serious eyes' but she's having none of it so he pretends that he wasn't touching her because he wanted to. Oh, these two. *sigh*

#8: Sam & Annie in Life On Mars [2x01]

Annie: Well, if it's so awful, why are you still here?
Sam: Believe me I wake up every morning and ask myself the same question.
A: You know why you're here. And I do too. You're lucky Sam, at least in CID you have a chance to make a difference. And you do.
S: Do I?
A: Yeah. ...And to me you do too.

These two are a relatively new OTP of mine, but love them I do! He's kind of (well, a lot!) messed up but she's always there for him no matter how 'crazy' he gets. And I really like the way Annie says the last line. (But after the rude interruption of Sam's convulsion/attack/whatever you call it, it takes them way too long to actually kiss!)

#7: Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth in Pride & Prejudice (2005)

"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
*
"And this is your opinion of me? [...] These bitter accusations might have been suppressed, had I with greater policy concealed my struggles, and flattered you into the belief of my being impelled by unqualified, unalloyed inclination; by reason, by reflection, by everything. But disguise of every sort is my abbhorence. Nor am I ashamed of the feelings I related. They were natural and just. Could you expect me to congratulate myself on the hope of relations whose condition in life is so decidedly beneath my own?"
"You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way than as it spared me the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more gentleman-like manner."

Despite Darcy & Elizabeth being one of my ultimate OTPs I'm not actually a huge fan of this adaptation - well, okay, there are only three things I really love about it - but this scene is one of them! I don't know why they're randomnly at this big ruin-type building but whatever; it's pretty! They're pretty! She's like "I hate everything about you" and he's all "I love you but I hate that I do"! And despite all this hate they're totally staring at each other's lips! - AND! The rain makes Matthew McFadyn's eyes look exceptionally blue. - What's not to love?

#6: Ned & Chuck in Pushing Daisies [1x01: Pielette]

Chuck: Thanks for calling me Chuck. You know, no one's called me Chuck since...since you.
Ned: When I lived next door to you I had a - I was in - you...were my first kiss.
C: Yeah? You were my first kiss too. Wanna be my last? First and last. Is that weird?
N: That's not weird. That's symmetrical.

The Narrator: Chuck's minute of life was nearly over. The piemaker's lips went as far as they would go. He couldn't will them to go any further.

I thought about including some of their other (non) kisses since technically kissing through plastic wrap, etc. is not a real kiss - because of the no touching! (sniff) - but I decided in terms of the show and these two, those are as close to kisses as they can get so they're kisses - And, anyway, this scene is just lovely! It's Adult Ned & Chuck's first scene together and its so sweet with the words and the little bit of awkwardness and Lee Pace's grin on that ridiculously handsome face of his! If I hadn't been loving the show already (which I totally was) this would have won me over.

#5: Danny & Lindsay in CSI:NY [3x18: Sleight Out of Hand]

No quote because there's no dialogue here - in fact, there's no dialogue between Danny and Lindsay at all in this episode, but it's not even necessary! I just love their whole story in this episode with Danny constantly thinking about her (and even hallucinating that he saw her at the lab! lol) and Lindsay really struggling with the trial (the first time she testifies always makes me feel so sad for her!) and then he goes to Montana to be there with her and it's all so sweet. The glances across the courtroom, the handholding when the verdict is announced - and then after they hug she's the one that pulls him back and they totally would have kissed if not for the photographers.

#4: James & Helena in Shakespeare Retold: A Midsummer Night's Dream

James: Can I ask you something?
Helena: Of course.
J: Did you know about Hermia and Xander before tonight?
H: No. I promise, I didn't. If I'd have known, I would have told you straight away.
J: But would you?
H: Of course. I never want to see you hurt. I care about you.
J: Yeah, course. And I care about you.
[As they walk, Helena trips and falls]
J: Oh no. Are you okay?
H: Yeah, I think so.
J: Here let me take a look.
H: I'm fine.
J: Well, there's nothing broken, I don't think.
H: I'm just clumsy.
[They start to lean towards each other, but then James suddenly stands up and turns around]
J: What are we doing?
H: Maybe we just got carried away.
J: Yeah. That must be it.
H: Crossed wires, mixed signals. I'm sorry.

My huge crush on the ever adorable William Ash meant I was always going to love him in this, but the fact that he was part of an angsty unrequited love storyline sealed the deal. He's all *woe* over Hermia running off with bad hair Frederick Hale Xander and doesn't see that Helena's been quietly pining for him all this time and she's so nice and trying to help him with Hermia. - And it gets really sad after this when he thinks she was trying to trick him :( but thankfully they eventually get their happy ending - which includes an actual kiss! *g*

#3: Eric & Ariel in The Little Mermaid

...It don't take a word, not a single word, go on and kiss the girl...

Disney OTP! This is one of my very favourite Disney ventures and this whole scene is just so great with all the animals singing even though Flotsam and Jetsam totally ruin the moment at the end - but it's okay because the rest of the film is great too and it's Disney so it's all happy and good. *yay* (Just don't talk to me about the Hans Christian Anderson one.)

#2: Robin & Marian in Robin Hood [1x08: Brothers In Arms]

[Robin whistles. Marian comes to the window.]
Marian: What do you want?
Robin: To talk.
M: So talk.
[Robin climbs up and moves as if to go inside but she sits on the ledge.]
M: Ah. You can talk from there. - What?
R: Nothing.
M: You were looking at me.
R: That's just the way my eyes were pointing. I'm sorry about yesterday. How is your father?
M: I hear your men are going to hang.
R: They're not my men.
M: They were your men last night.
R: The Sheriff is hanging them in my name, hoping I'll turn up to rescue them. But my men think it's a trap. Has your good friend Guy of Gisbourne said anything to you?
M: I think he was a little preoccupied. But I will go to the castle to see what I can find out.
R: [Robin shakes his head.] If I do not turn up to resuce them people will think I cannot protect my men. Do I risk us all to save them?
M: You are a good man, Robin. Nothing will change that.
[Robin tries to kiss her but Marian stops him and laughs.]
M: That won't help you make your decision.
R: It might.
M: It won't.

Yes, it's Robin & Marian again! This is my very favourite episode of Robin Hood - partly for Allan's storyline, partly for the very big angst at the end :( and a lot for this little scene. In a way it's quite similiar to the scene in 1x02, with her trying to help him, him not admitting to staring at her and her still not letting him kiss her but it also shows how their relationship has grown. And it's just cute the way she laughs when she stops him and he's all "It might [help]!" *g*. Also, I love how in climbing up to her window and then climbing down Robin has to be the lovely little show-off that he is and do some fancy acrobatics for Marian on that bar thing *lol*.

#1: Shawn & Juliet in Psych [2x09: Bounty Hunters]

Juliet: Shawn? Look, I really screwed up today and I just wanted to say thank you for being there for me. It really meant a lot.
Shawn: It was a mistake. That's...what friends are for.
J: Yeah. Well. It's been a long day.
S: Well, I guess you have to get home and feed your parrot.
J: Shawn, I don't have a parrot.
S: Well. In that case...
[Shawn leans in]
J: Shawn, what are you doing?
S: Nothing.
J: Really, because if you're doing what it looks like you're doing, it's going to be one of those things we were just talking about.
S: What's that?
J: A mistake.
S: I agree, but that's clearly not what we're doing.
J: Okay. Really? What do you say that we're doing?
S: I call it...very close talking.
J: Ah. I see. Do you have anything else to say?
S: Mmmm. No. I think I'm good for now.

For me, there was really no contest that this was going to be number one. I mean, it's Shawn and Juliet! And after one and a half seasons of banter fangirls everywhere squealed when this happened. Not only do they get closer to the actual kiss than all the other couples (see caps for evidence!) they actually carry a conversation while their lips are right there (which is no small feat. I, for one, would not be able to control myself around Shawn Spencer). Other things to love about it: Shawn putting on his serious voice afterwards when he says goodnight but smiling as he walks away while Juliet times herself reassmbling her gun like she did earlier in the episode for stress & the slight lip touching when Shawn "Mmmm"s. :D
