if something is "potentially serious," then shouldn't it be taken seriously from the start in an attempt to avoid such a situation altogether, at which point it would no longer be "potential" but very definite? i don't see how something can be potentially serious, unless you're trying to ignore it. like colin and me and our decaying friendship.
