Week of hell began with 9 min presentation on Monday on "The uses of computers in diabilities" in front of 32 class members and 2 assessors. Was totally crappin masel' cos not done a presentation in so long. Went ok though, so happy with that.
Tuesday was spent preparing for Wednesday (shittin masel') and travelling to Bristol to catch up with Laura and stay over.
Wednesday (was practically being sick now) was an assessment centre for DESG in Bath. Began at 0800, finished 1745 and inbetween the coffee breaks it included a role play (with professional actors) at 0830 where we were told we'd be meeting "Alex Saunders" - in walks a woman and I was like (fuck me, you're not a bloke!) "Good morning, please take a seat, would you like some water?". This was followed by a non-assessed question time with a current graduate on the course (quite fit so not a strenuous task!) which was then followed by the dreaded TECHNICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVIEW. OHMIGOD! This was the most blood pressure raising thing i've done in ages and it went badly. Presentation was done on holography from 4th year cos monday's presentation wasn't technical enough and friday's presentation was (at the time when i had to send DESG a title and abstract) a mere figment of my imagination that was nowhere near fruitation. So holograms it was and the questions were ugly. Couldn't answer a thing including "can you tell me bout newton's rings?" Nope. "What are satelites used for?" Em.. "How would you detect a submarine underwater?" No idea. "What are the properties of metals?" You've got me there. "Tell me about NMR" I can't. Honestly they could've asked 2 + 2 and I've have been doing well to answer 5. Anyway the competency questions after went ok and then it was a nice spread put on for lunch (not that any of us could eat much). The afternoon consisted of 2 writing ex, the first one lasting 1hr 50mins included reading about 17 pages of info and then preparing a report. Hand, arm and shoulder aching. 15 min break and then then final ex lasting an hr involved reading less info, producing report and supplementary brief on your calculations of warhead size and then presenting it to "Chris Thornton". (Ok thinks me, don't get caught out on unisex names again - it was a woman). Calculations easy but arm about to fall off. At this point I is was utterly exhausted and was good to have tea and gossip with Laura before heading back. Had to change trains at Reading where I met my sis while waiting and then decided just to stay over. Will get Guildford early tomorrow me thinks.
This morning (thursday) up early and at train station for bout 0725, great there's a train in 10 mins. Waiting...waiting, change on the departure board. There's a train stuck at guildford thats mucking up the signals so no trains running there! Eh? Ended up waiting ages and the duty manager putting everyone in taxis. Didn't arrive till 0945! Grrrrrr! Currently writing my 3rd presentation for the week on 2 and 3 gamma annihilation processes and uses. Can't wait to get it over with tomorrow and have a well deserved drink and long lie on saturday!!!
