so, it's starting to get hot in the charm city which means that everything is hazy and ugly. unfortunately.
also, it means that people who shouldn't be wearing minimal amounts of clothing are doing just so.
i saw my first rat the other day. i was at a stoplight near my house and it was just chilling on the sidewalk. it was big, brown, and unconcerned.
i also think i saw a guy trying to break into a car today. can't be sure though, but it was sketchy. and, as i drove away, i saw him open a door to the SUV in my rearview mirror.

a quick update:
-looking at more apartments this weekend. hopefully will find something so that i have my own space. most likely the place i find will be smaller than the room i currently am in, but oh well. i'm looking forward to moving to a more lively/safe neighborhood. i also wish i had more friends here. i feel like i go to work. and come home. and do nothing. and repeat.
-still in the lab 7 days a week. not sure how i ended up working every weekend. i'm not sure if i implicitly agreed to this or not, but it's getting old. if i can get the balls, i'll talk this over with my postdoc or boss. i'm also feeling more like a tech in the lab recently and not like a researcher. granted, i only have a BS degree so i'm not going to know as much as the post-docs, but....i just feel like i'm doing the gruntwork of this project i'm supposed to be cooperatively workiing on with my postdoc and getting no input into the experimental design.
-i submitted my AMCAS (med school app) on thursday. it's currently in the process of being verified and i think it will be sent to all the designated schools in a few weeks. and so it begins. things start to get hectic soon. ... i ended up applying to 22 schools so i better get in somewhere.
in case anybody is interested: (Maryland, West Virginia, Vermont, Georgetown, George Washington, UCSF, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Toledo, SUNY-Downstate, New York Medical College, Rochester, Albany, Pitt, Drexel, Jefferson, Medical College of Wisconsin, Rush, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola, and VCU)
-i went to an orientation for potential volunteers at the local glbt community center. hopefully something will come of that.
