i haven't actually updated lj in quite some time, so i thought i'd take some time out of my day off to do just that.
life in orlando:
is good. alan and i have settled nicely into our small, but comfortable apartment. it definitely has its pros: 6 minute drive from work, bills are essentially half of what they were in tallahassee, close to good shopping and restaurants, new kitchen appliances, etc. the only con i've become aware of is the size. in the end though, the pros outweigh the cons and we are very happy here.
work:
i'm working as a tech v at terminator 2:3d. basically, i'm run crew for the show. usf's peak season is from around mid july - mid august. it was pretty crazy. we did 31 shows a day. now that peak is over, we're only doing 13 a day! it was a major slow-down, which included a cut in hours for people who are seasonal... like myself. despite the lack of current cash flow, it has been a pretty nice break. it has been that way for about 3 weeks now, and it ends.... tomorrow? for me, anyway.
tomorrow and saturday = rock the universe. i have a minor management role for it, but basically i'm a runner. it is a good chance to impress stage managers from around the park, so i'm very excited to be a part of it. monday is the start of halloween training. i'm very excited about halloween. i'm going to be a coordinator (just below asm) for one of the scare zones. this means a few things: a) raise!; b) working with d.killz!; c) not having to actually see the rest of hhn (=; d) lots of [ridic] hours; e) raise!
i'll be doing that until very early in november. after that, 1 of 3 things can happen. i will either a) go back to working at t2; b) start a new full-time job at ioa that i'm interviewing for on tuesday (unlikely but very preferable...crossing my fingers!); c) work a similar position for macy's/christmas that i did for rtu/hhn. that is all still very up in the air.
alan is doing really well. he is doing pyro/fx for usf. he finished his big 360 show on aug. 17 and has since been doing things like striking the equipment for that show, odd jobs, or the more fun things - like working on hhn special fx - which he started this week. that gave him an opportunity to work with caitlin, the girl that essentially got him the job, so he enjoyed that. he should find out soon just exactly what he will be doing for halloween. we'll both be working crazy hours for hhn (ex: 4pm - 3am), but we're very excited. especially since some of our good friends will be coming to visit!
life in general:
all things considered, life is going well. the most recent development was, of course, alan's mom. to keep it short, things were not so great, but they have improved a whole lot. she is recovering and we are all very grateful for that.
i haven't been able to be home since we went to key west early last month, and the puppies weren't even home then. ): needless to say, i'm very overdue for a trip to see everyone. it is getting harder and harder to get all the family in the same place, what with dad flying all the time, me in orlando, mom with her crazy social butterfly schedule, and mike starting his fall semester at fsu...majoring in physics! but i look forward to seeing everyone very soon.
alan's birthday is next friday (aah!) and we're looking forward to celebrating. it will probably consist of dinner, a trip to corona wine & cigar bar, and some delish bday cake. 22... time certainly flies.
i miss everyone in tallahassee a lot. i feel like i haven't seen jana or flops (not a tallahassee person,i know, but honorary at least) in years, and that makes my heart hurt. i'm really hoping to make it up to tallahassee asap, but if you read my schedule above - you know that might not be so possible. i certainly hope that all my friends know they are always welcome (in decent sized-groups, please!) to crash on our couch/living room floor. i/we would just love to see you.
that's about it. wow, i never write this much. don't expect it to happen again any time soon! (:
