We have one old theatre in town ( advertised as "the second oldest screen in Oregon) which gets movies, one at a time, about a month after they hit the rest of the world. Last night we decided to go see "Law Abiding Citizen". First, we were the only people there. And it was about thirty degrees. My husband said, "We should have brought a blanket." I zipped up my coat and pulled my arms out of my sleeves, which helped.
I'm a big Gerard Butler fan, and the trailers made this look like he was the star. Well, he ends up to be the bad guy, with Jamie Foxx as the good guy, but I'm not sure I got it. My loyalties, and sympathies, stayed with Gerard Butler's character. Even though he did bad things to characters I liked, at the end I was still hoping he'd get away, but Jamie Foxx's character was triumphant, because he was the "good" guy. Perhaps Gerard Butler's part should have been a less likeable actor? I don't know...
Last week, my youngest and I rented "My Sister's Keeper." I had no desire to see it, I don't like obviously sad movies, but she really wanted to.
First of all, WAY TOO MUCH VOMITING. And then, I found myself absolutely despising Cameron Diaz's character. Which might have been the point, but man, I never really got it. My favorite character ended up being the one with the least screen time, the misunderstood brother ( who used to be on ABC'S Complete Savages, which I thought was a hoot..) Also a bright spot was Thomas Dekker from Sarah Connor Chronicles as a cancer patient. The end twist was good,....
I"m a movie optimist. I don't ever walk out of movies or turn them off until they're done. ( Except for Adventureland. I could not stomach the lead actress and her three facial expression for another second, nor the seriously annoying lead actor. How does he get all those lead roles?) But man. I think I need to go rent Star Trek so I can get these other two out of my head...
