Harvard Interview and Subject SAT's

Nov 04, 2007 01:16

It's 1:16am and Harvard is all I can think about. I've never been there, however, I feel like I could "belong" there. I don't know. I don't want to get my hopes too up high either only to see them fall. Yet at the same time, I cannot forget the fact that Harvard rejects Valedictorians, class presidents and whatnot.

Ms. Bruno said that Harvard knew that a perfect 2400 on the SAT meant nothing. They look for individuality and well-roundedness (sorry my brain cannot come up with another word that sounds better). They want to see that the student is more than books, and yet at the same time knows "their way around books."

The interview was great. I liked Ms. Bruno, and she took notes. She looks very learned. She said that the interview would become an official part of my admission folder. Remembering Vanessa's "encouraging" words of being realistic in that I could never hope to get accepted into Harvard, I asked Ms. Bruno whether she "Agreed" with Vanessa. She didn't. She said that she herself got wait-listed, and that I had a level of maturity well above my years and that I was talented. She said it was not unrealistic. I have good chances.

The interview was supposed to last one hour, but in fact it lasted 2 hours! We lost track of time talking. I played my immigrant card, my leadership card, my federal employee card, my IS card, my mom card, my languages card, my GNOSTIC AND ISLAMIC card (!!!!), my "english-is-not-my-first-language-card-but-I-still-challenge-myself-with-AP-courses" and even my Yasin card.

I wish I had not been too nervous though. It was one of those times when Spanish justed wanted to come, and my brain had trouble coming up with grammatically correct sentences.

hehe.
ojala ojala...

meanwhile the Subject ACT's went all right. I took the spanish one with listening, us history and mathematics level 1. It was so funny, I thought, that I had actually registered to take the English Literature one, but ended up taking math! It so happened that I had my calculator on my purse, and it was a last minute decision. This week had been so hectic at school that I could make time to study for the Subject SAT's. I was reviewing US History and I was like "eh, i'll pass-ish" but I kept getting 0 on my Literature practice ones!!! I was feeling very apprehensive going into YHS yesterday to take the Subjects, but atter taking the history one, I asked the lady if it would possible to make my 3rd subject a different from the one i had signed up for. there was no problem, so I did the math. It was basically ACT math, which I can do! =D It's simplistic enough, and maybe I might just score better on this math subject SAT than the SAT reasoning math section. lol.

and tomorrow (or today sunday), I go to work for 6 hours. yay.

work, sat, harvard
