JAMES IS OFFICIALLY MOBILE!!!!! He learned how to crawl FORWARD today and can slowly but surely go where he wants.
James had an ENT appt today. The doc looked at him said everything looks good, "do we have an appt to put him in the sound booth?" I said, "Yes, today." Doc remembers and agrees with me. After a lengthy wait, the audiologist finally arrives & apologizes. Apparently the pagers weren't working. James did well but there wer some tones that I heard & he appeared not to. They were very quiet so not sure if he didnt hear them or just ignored them. Then, she tried a head set that sat just outside teh ears. He hated it, heard a few more tones, but still not responding to all of them. He got cranky, so the audiologist decided to do a different test that put nodules in his ear canals & measured ear drum movement. It was actually noticeable that he had an ear canal on the right (little ear) side. YaY! That was up for debate before. He passed on the left (i.e. normal) ear, but did show signs of mild hearing loss. It was determined that there was fluid in the ear. The right (little) ear did not pass, but scored a "refer". It showed movement of the ear drum (which is also present YAY!), but not enough to pass. The ear may still develop normally with only exterior deformities, but its too early to tell. However, speech and language skills will develop normally with only one ear. The big deal is to keep the left ear functioning normally and "maximize" it. So, have to return in abt 6 wks to check if fluid has drained. If not, then tube in that ear before flu season hits. But overall, things look good, whatever may happen. If action needs to be taken, he does have a normally functioning ear and a somewhat responsive deformed ear. Hell, I'll learn sign language if I have to.
