life support

I just watched Life Support, and let me tell you that this is definitely a must-see (and not only because of Queen Latifah).

Queen Latifah plays a woman (Anna) that goes around Brooklyn handing out condoms and literature and educating people about the HIV virus as part of her work at a support group. But Anna has a little back story: she is HIV positive. She contracted the virus when her and her boyfriend were crack addicts. Because of her drug addiction, she neglected her child who now lives with Anna's mother. Even though Anna has cleaned up and has become a symbol of hope, the old wounds she's caused haven't quite healed.

This is a heartbreaking and uplifting film at the same time. I definitely recommend that you watch it. I'll post news of a DVD as it comes, but for now the movie is available for free on HBO On Demand. You can watch the trailer and view interviews and photos here.
