LOL. I do sometimes seek out wank for the lulz (fandom_wank or the wank report sometimes competes with TV tropes as the best time suck ever), so I could see lurking on someone's LJ to see the wank.

But I never feel moved to join in on the wank. You don't want to be a wanker if at all possible as it's way more fun to shake your head at the crazy from a nice, safe distance than join in from any side.

This person was, IMO, pretending to be a disinterested party while just itching to slap some wrists. You weren't being wanky. You were having some fun with a new development and a few giggles. There was no reason to get all het up like they did unless they were just dying to push some agenda. For them to find THAT POST, the one that will haunt poor Tobes to her dying day? Because she ranted nearly four years ago? Not a disinterested party.

Seriously, I've never had the energy to troll or sockpuppet. I mean, what do you get from it? The rewards could never weigh up to the efforts involved. Why don't they just write some fic if they feel so passionately? That always fixes me up. :)

See, now, I can actually see the fun of stirring the pot. Every once in awhile I think of some some made-up fandom "secret" that it might be fun to submit to that comm just to see what ensues, but then the part of my brain that thinks of itself as a grown-up (and also doesn't want to stay up all night for the next three weeks learning GIMP) butts in and kills all my fun.

But the beauty of that comm is that it's anonymous. I can't imagine the effort it would take to create a believable sock-puppet. I'd have to learn to stop inserting parenthetical thoughts into every other sentence. Never gonna happen.
