Not With a Bang but a Whimper

May 14, 2011 01:02

My oldest step-son came home from his first year of university tonight at 7:21. We had a great family meal, all four of us, for the first time since Winter Break. It's crazy how much I've missed him; he's getting to be such a cool person and I'm so proud of him (or I will be until we get this semester's transcripts...).

Consequently, I didn't watch the Finale, and from what I've read, I'm not sure I will. There's no reason to watch in order to find out what's next, and now I realize there never really was (at least not this season). It also sounds from what I've read that the narrative back-bone of the first seven years of the series was just tossed away like a gum wrapper and while the past that idea might have enraged me, I now find that I simply don't want to give it my consideration. I am past "what were they thinking?!?!"* I'm done.

I couldn't have made it to this point without you guys, or the many other posters I've come across who were able to assure me that it wasn't just me, that this show could addle even the best brains. Thank you all.

*Not really. I sense a list is in the works, and I still wonder if tptb were really as lazy and cowardly and thoughtless as they appear or if the last few seasons weren't some Andy Kaufman-esque joke on their part, but those are idle questions.

real life, smallville, season 10
