Had a lovely Christmas playing with my baby nephews and my husband got me the most amazing lunch box which is MAKING my new year. (Yes, it's the little things that make me happy in life.). We rented a car to drive to my parents' in the great state of Iowa because the roads in town have been extremely slippery what with the bajillion inches of snow we've had in the last month and some poor guy slid through a stop sign into our passenger-side headlight a week before the holiday. This turned out to be a good thing (kind of), as no one was hurt and the car was totaled in spite of rather minor damage, so we got a nice check worth more than what we'd originally paid for it.
Last night we had a relatively mild (for Minnesota) New Year; temp started at 20 (Farenheit, which I think would be about -5 Celsius) and dropped to only 4 (-15). We ended up going to Brits' Clubhouse to see a Beatles' coverband and then back to one of the local bars by midnight where some of the regulars were setting off bottle rockets in the street (public safety as always being our first priority).
My oldest step-son is back from college until mid-January and it is amazing and somewhat disconcerting to see how mature he has become. He's doing all kinds of crazy things like picking up after himself and drinking wine with dinner -- my husband has already started talking about the happy day when we'll be having Christmas with baby grand-children. I'm content to post-pone that for another decade or two, myself.
Still no Internet at home. Am WAY behind on both reading and writing, and feel like a total flist slacker. I am still busy at work and with the issue of whether or not we're moving (more on that if it actually comes to pass). Hope everyone has a wonderful, productive, safe and prosperous New Year!
