Hmmm, well, very close by (and thus cheap to get to) is Amsterdam, which is a crazy city with a good mixture of places for drinking/smoking up and clubs, crazy shops but also plenty of great architecture, awesome gardens/parks and museums. If you go there, make sure book a hostel at the Flying Pig and you won't want to leave. Check out ryanair maybe or KLM for flights.
My recent trip to Tallinn, Estonia was also great. It's much smaller but the old town is almost falling apart from how ancient the architecture is - in a good way - it's really interesting and I think there's enough to do to have fun for a couple of days. We also hired a car and travelled down to Riga, capital of Latvia, which was much bigger, had plenty more to do and had great Slavic buildings and sights - great fun, the only problem being it's catering to tourists as much as humanly possible so it's crammed full of drunken English twats singing and shouting and fighting all over the place.
Of course there is also Stuttgart which I'd wager is the cleanest and safest city in Europe but has plenty of awesome nightlife, and lots of worthwhile sights and towns easily accessible from public transport. If you were interested I'm sure the English guys here would let you crash on their sofa/floor for some free sleeping too. Beautiful area and more than plenty to do for a short holiday.
Well there's a couple of suggestions, if you are interested in any in particular then I'll help you out with getting any of them organised and what exactly you can do there!
