Oh my god, whilst I love political theory and aspects of politics, I hate politicians!!!
I used to quite like Ed Milliband and now he has completely misrepresented the pledge Lib Dems made because it was if they WERE THE GOVERNMENT not a coalition! And he himself can't say Labour would keep student fees down, given his party totally misrepresented the level of government debt, their whole manifesto for the election was complete bollocks really!
Also one of the students interviewed about the fees and I quote "many of the students here are doing degrees that won't get them high paying jobs" this was the answer to "but you don't have to repay till you earn 21k", so basically he's saying a lot of the students there protesting were ones whose degree wouldn't get them a degree of 21k!!! Then what is the point of them going to Uni, when you can earn that level of money in jobs without a degree!!!
SERIOUSLY, if you want graduates whose degrees actually mean something and can pay back (from earning higher wages), you have to either increase fees to best Uni's but support the brightest students or cut places and only let the brightest go. I know the problem is that because of society issues, it would probably mean only the richer families will go, but if Uni education is low cost then everyone goes, does useless degrees and then there is too much supply of graduates and not enough jobs, which means graduates do earn less and debt becomes an issue.
But it's like with everything, the media says debt and inflation are BAD and that's what the majority of people think too, but actually as long as it's not extreme it can be a good thing. Increase competition, investment and incentive to work hard! Can you tell I've been studying economics?
