They're shooting the movie, Chronicles, outside my building. Robert Downey Jr., the guy from Donnie Darko, and Anthony Edwards are starring. They took over Taylor St, with classic cars, rain machines, and wouldn't you know it? - their own special crack whores. I watched the guy from Donnie Darko do a take. He ran out of Original Joes restuarant, where the director and all the expenisve gear were hiding, and covered his head with a newspaper - only in the movies. He jumped up and down, and ran back in the building. "CUT!"
The most amusing part of the whole shebang was the hair and makeup crew. They were spritzing and fussing right up until the moment they heard "ACTION!"
In San Francisco, film permits are cheap - especially in the Tenderloin. Just a few months ago, they shot the movie version of RENT during our rainy season. Crack hotels were painted bright yellow and orange, the homeless were told to "take it down to Mission", and fake snow - made from crumpled pieces of paper - covered the sidewalks. Also, the TL is really the only neighborhood that still looks like the 60s. And we all know how much
Hollywood luvz the 60s.
