voting?

Early voting is upon us (started October 18). Most of us don't know jack about the judicial seats. Well, I got a little insight every goddamn judicial bench that's on the chopping block this election. I found a website hosted by the Nevada Action Coalition, an ultra-conservative, anti-immigrant PAC that provided a list of candidates they endorse - ( Read more... )

As a lawyer in Nevada, this list really offends me. I'm happy to offer people my own views, as a practicing attorney who knows the judicial system

particularly I would urge people to reconsider this list in the seats of Supreme Court Justice, Seat D and District Court Judge Dept 7. Linda Bell is clearly the stronger candidate with criminal and civil experience on both sides; Spretnak has no criminal experience

I find it hard to vote for anyone who is endorsed by the far right, regardless of their experience.

if you knew Linda Bella personally you would know she's spent her career championing the causes of the most downtroden criminal defendants in the state, working as a federal public defender and she is as far from the right as a Judge could possibly be

Ugh, question five isn't solely gaming. It's all hotels/motels. The truth of the matter is we rely too heavily on the gaming industry to provide for everything for the state. This is a trend that needs to stop. "This is Vegas" argument only goes so far. There are sooo many more options out there for a gaming vacation. If we keep raising the prices on everything, If we keep throwing stupid regulations like smoking bans out there, if we keep abusing the gaming industry, eventually... there will be a problem.
Luckily this is only an advisory question, but don't try and tell the lawmakers that this idea is even remotely okay.

Born Stubborn, were you also born stupid? The NAC spent time and effort reviewing the records of these judges to formulate their reccomendation... and you spend 2 seconds deciding that being ignorant, slandorous and misguided is the better approach. Then, you advertize it. there's a difference between having a view and being hateful and insulting and you crossed it. And you miss-represent "progressive ideology" to being soft on crime. And you can't even understand the things you're advising votes on!

Question 5 won't take anything from the gaming industries! It would put 3% on room&board taxes in the county. NOT an increase on the GAMING tax like it should have been. Instead you pushed it off on the average joe renting a room instead of skimming from the high rollers who's rooms are comped!

The NAC also spends a lot of time slandering immigrants - claiming, under a whole section of their website, that immigrants bring diseases to the U.S. and that the "prey on children". So, I'm to trust a viral, xenophobic, fascist website's assertions, just because you say they did their homework? I understand things perfectly, including the fact that a lot of these judges are promoting fascism under the guise of being "tough on crime". You might be cool with that, being a Republican and all (don't try to deny it, I read your profile). Besides, what crimes are we talking about here? Crimes that offend white conservative sensibilities? Good, then. Don't insult my intelligence. You have no idea how much research I did on this subject. Don't shit on me just because I don't agree with what LVRJ has to say about the matter. As for question 5, if the gaming industry won't have to pay, how come a majority of the industry opposes this question ( ... )
