Jim glanced up from his PADD at her, as he had been sitting at his desk and.. playing a rousing game of solitaire but that wasn't really important. So he put the device aside and leaned back in his chair slightly.
That was so blunt that it took Jim a moment to think of a response to it. And it was maybe a little sad that his first thought was to wonder if someone had told her that or if she had come to that conclusion herself.
"Well, if I thought that and it was true, you probably wouldn't be asking me." Which was not an answer at all.
"So now the only thing keeping you around is the whole 'dying when you get home' thing. And hey, given you gigantic death wish I'm not even sure why that's stopping you."
The volume hadn't gone up but there was a growing rigidity in her tone and posture.
Jim stared at her for a moment before pushing his chair back from his desk and standing up. "Or I believe that Bones will actually make good on his deal," he answered, approaching her.
"I wouldn't spend forever here because I'm afraid to go home and die."

"You - "
She shoved him hard in the chest. After a couple days of building pressure, this was a dam bursting.
"You moron! 'Shego doesn't care about me, boo hoo'. You really think I don't care - about any of my friends, about graduating, about you? God, if I was as lame as you I would want to die!"
She shoved him again, hard enough that he toppled onto the couch behind him.
"What do you think I've been doing all month? I tried to do the hero thing in Paris, repeatedly. I got hurt saving somebody I actually hate. I took up a deal with that psychotic not-the-Admiral, knowing it was gonna come back to bite me somehow, so I could come help you. I even tell you to pay attention to what I'm doing and not what I'm saying and you can't even take the hint? What do you think giving a damn looks like? What do you think caring about graduating looks like? You - " She threw up her hands. "Aaargh!"
Yeah, that. That was a lot of rage and emotion and stuff to take in. And even if it hadn't been Shego, he would've just stared at her anyway for a few moments while he tried to process it all. Being shoved hard enough to fall didn't really help with things either.
Jim still wasn't convinced that she genuinely cared about graduating, not in any way that would actually get her places. And he really... just had no comment to make about the stuff she'd been doing because apparently, he'd read that all wrong.
"... I-- you could say that. That, you actually care. Once in a while." Yeah, that was what he wanted to focus on.
"I shouldn't have to. Ugh, I even told you I didn't want to be doing good things just because you'd reward me any more, I've moved past that, it should've been - "
Obvious. But it clearly wasn't. She just kicked the side of the couch needlessly hard out of sheer frustration and turned away, pulling at her hair.
"Fine. If you need me to tend to your uncharacteristically delicate ego occasionally, fine."
"When has it ever worked? Oh, way to gossip about me with Grayson, by the way. I really enjoy not being able to have a civilized conversation with any of your buddies because they've been misinformed about me." She paused. "And yeah, I did ask him about you because I was hoping I was wrong about this whole deal."

"What's up?"

"Do you seriously think I don't care? About anything?"

"It doesn't kill you to say, oh yeah Jim, I care about you too, every once in a while."

"I've already said fine. Don't push it."
