It's possible this is the first time she's been to a regular meal time in... all right, so maybe she wasn't going during peak eating hours for a while before that coma, but she can totally just slip in and eat some cereal in a corner, right? (She really just wants some coffee.)

Beatty had never really enjoyed eating with a group. He supposed that he should have, but sharing meals with these people just seemed...unappealing. However, when he saw Cissie, he changed his mind for the moment, moving to sit down beside her.

"Good morning, little girl." It had been a while since he had spoken to her. And, really, that had affected him. He just wasn't aware of it just yet.

Cissie wasn't sure what surprised her more--that Beatty sat with her, or that he actually spoke to her. She was still a little irrationally annoyed with him for his book burning; she knew it wasn't her place to care anymore, but it didn't stop her.

At the moment, though, she just gave a little smile and took a sip of her coffee. "Hello, old man. How are you?"

"Hm. She speaks." He pretended to see surprised by that, but he didn't actually try to put any genuine feeling into that. Instead, he broke apart his toast. "I suppose that I am fine. As fine as I could be, you understand."

Cissie's smile actually relaxed a little; Beatty's insults were familiar, and she didn't sense any real venom in them this morning. "Be careful, or I'll start thinking you missed me."

She took a bite of her cereal and shook her head. "I've been kind of under the weather. What's happened?"

He looked at her plainly. "The death toll," he revealed, his tone bland. He didn't want to go into any more detail than that. What they had witnessed was something he thought they had no business discussing, and so he would keep his mouth shut on the matter.

"But that was several days ago."

"Death toll?" Well, that made Cissie sit up a bit straighter. And frown. Beatty might be a giant, cranky, totalitarian jerk, but that didn't mean he deserved the death toll. Coyo and Ardent were both gone, so she couldn't figure out who might have wanted to kill him over the book burning. "What happened? Who did it?"

She refrained from asking if they'd been punished, because she knew it wasn't her place anymore... even if she sometimes forgot.

He actually chuckled at that, glad to at least get a reaction out of her of some kind. Shrugging once, he leaned forward.

"Whatever the Admiral has down in the depths of his barge. That's all I know."

She frowned, trying to make sense of what he was saying, and then it hit her: the crisis Shego had told her about, with the fake Admiral. ...That didn't really explain to her what had happened to Beatty.

"...Why were you down there?"

He finished off his toast and pulled his coffee towards him, staring into the black liquid as he spoke. "Either to save the ship from the imposter or to die trying and be set free. We died trying and returned here instead."

Cissie looked at him, taking a sip of her own coffee to cover her further surprise. She was... impressed. And maybe a little proud of him, despite the fact that his motivations might still have boiled down to something selfish.

"That was brave of you. You've been to the infirmary?"
