Such an energetic and fluttery presence didn't go unnoticed to Gabriel even as she entered, but he wasn't truly surprised until she approached him and took the opposing seat. He straightened in his chair as she sat, eyes lifting up to meet her instead of watching her from his peripheral vision. While not feeling particularly angry, neither was he full of the happiness that had spontaneously possessed him after Christmas.

"Hello," he replied evenly, simultaneously intrigued and unamused. He had sought peace here in the library, but Gabriel had also found that some of the best company to keep had come unexpectedly. It was only fair to give her the opportunity to be a worthwhile person.

Gabriel tilted his head in a sort of puzzled state, entirely unsure of what to think. The all-too-cheerful girl was one thing--she reminded him a lot of the Charlie he had killed in Texas--but an emphatic chipmunk? Well, it certainly explained why she was an inmate. Innocent intentions but complete insanity; he ignored the small detail that he too could see the chipmunk and its facial expressions. It wasn't what he was used to, but it didn't seem so horrible either. He simply ignored the chipmunk.

"I'm not used to being in a place like this, to being so powerless." He replied honestly, though the tone came without a hint of hesitation. Looking down for a moment, he closed the book slowly enough that the perturbed chipmunk could scatter without harm, then lifting his eyes to the woman again.

"Yes, Gabriel Gray. Who are you?"

Gabriel dropped his head down to glare at the pipsqueak, nearly backhanding it from the table. Luckily Giselle's immediate reaction saved the thing, which he then looked away from. He wasn't certain if its recent actions were evidence of his being intelligent or evidence of its wild and natural mind. And so it was again ignored.

"That's.. fine," he replied with a hint of hesitation, sickened with himself that he had considered chastising the animal. Then again, he had already seen stranger things on this vessel. Reaching out, he gently shook her hand in introduction. "Who is your inmate?"

Glancing at her outfit, he added as an afterthought, "Where are you from?"

Gabriel listened politely and made a note of Aleera being a vampire, not having the faintest idea who that was. This girl was more happy than he was used to and it was a pleasant metaphoric breath of fresh air after all of the drama he was having to endure on the barge. "I don't know the place you're from. I was from New York originally. Then I was living in New Jersey before--"

They both got it. No one really liked to talk about dying. Sylar had been killed before, but not to the extent he had woken up somewhere else. Not like this, anyway. The complete chipper mood of the woman across from him somewhat frustrated him in his current state, feeling completely alone and worthless. "Why did you come to this place?"
