Since Ariadne was the one who got to witness his little collapse, she pretty much has been refusing to leave his side since getting him to the infirmary.

Okay, so eventually she left for about an hour to eat, but she's back now, because she doesn't want to leave him alone, even here. Just in case.

"Hey, feeling any better?"

Arthur smiles when he sees her. It's not a small, controlled smile like usual, but an open one. It practically makes him look like a different person-- younger, softer. Thank the morphine for that.

"Heeeey you." A sloppy wave. "This is... great. I feel like a rock star."

That - takes Ariadne a little by surprise, but she can't help returning the smile.

She never realized Arthur has dimples.

"I'm glad you're feeling better. Have you eaten anything?" She takes a seat next to his bed.

He shakes his head. "Don't need to. I'm like... Superman." Don't do drugs, kids. Arthur shifts a little, but barely moves since his body's practically boneless right now. He stares at Ariadne as though he's studying her. "You're pretty. You know? Your hair... is pretty."

"I'm pretty sure even Superman has to eat," she points out logically.

Because he'll hate himself later for this.

...Especially for calling her pretty.

"Thanks, Arthur. Hey, you're not so bad, yourself."

Arthur laughs. "I know. I'm verrrry attractive," he slurs out, nodding like it's common knowledge. "But not pretty."

"Some people might disagree... I never knew your hair was curly." Well, she didn't. She's only ever seen it slicked back.

"It is?" He makes a thoughtful face, slowly drags a hand through his hair... then points a finger at Ariadne. "Yoooou're not supposed to see it like that."

"Why, because you have to maintain professional distance?" She gives him a sympathetic look. "I think we lost all hope of that when you collapsed in excruciating pain right in front of me. Besides, we're friends, right?"

"We are friends," he confirms, that dopey grin back on his face. Now, time to ramble: "I missed you. The first time you were here, you were kind of mean and I think you hated me, so I didn't really care when you left. I like this you better." He reaches out to poke her nose. "You're the good twin."

Ariadne laughs faintly. "No way. How could I hate the guy who showed me the penrose steps?"

He missed her? He is really going to regret this later, she's sure.

"I know, right?" Yes, Arthur, you're so cool. "I guess you were mad because I wanted to shoot my inmate, but he tortured me and he was a dick." He lets out a little knowing giggle. "But you were actually there for me when my head tried to explode."

Oh, Arthur. "Well, you probably shouldn't shoot your inmate unless there's really no other option. But of course I was there for you. You were there for me, when Mal got me, remember?" She does.

"Yeah... Hey. You know the real Mal? She wouldn't try to kill you. You know. She was a good person." He leans over more and puts a finger to his lips. "Don't tell Cobb, but I really wanted to have sex with her. When I first met her, I mean. Now it'd be like doing my mom, so I don't want to. Also, she's dead."

"Arthur..." Wow, she... really didn't need to know that. "That's more than I really wanted to know about Mal. Why don't you tell me how pretty I am again?" That's got to be a safer topic, right?

Arthur on drugs is about as bad as Arthur on a truth flood. There are some people who just really shouldn't say everything on their mind. "Why do you want me to tell you how pretty you are?" he asks teasingly. "You know you're pretty."
