Neil was out of his room as well, walking towards the stairwell when he spotted the unfamiliar face. He didn't know if he should bother greeting the individual at all; he'd probably just make him miserable, like everyone else in his life. Still, he couldn't pretend he didn't see him, as he was passing by him. He nodded slightly, looking towards the ground and mumbled a, "Hello", but kept walking.
Neil, Neil, Orange- oh wait, wrong character :P1st4earthrealmDecember 28 2008, 05:29:52 UTC
Kung Lao hadn't run into many people so far on his exploration of the barge. As the tall fellow walked by and mumbled "hello", Kung Lao stopped walking. He smiled and tried to look the man in the eyes to return the greeting, but to his surprise, the man had kept walking down the hall.
Well, that was a bit awkward. But Kung Lao had been taught to be polite, and the polite thing one should do when greeted is greet back. Unsure if the man was perhaps in a hurry, Kung Lao watched him for a second.
"-Hello!" he quickly called out, hoping the stranger heard him.
Neil stopped and looked over his shoulder. Maybe the man actually wanted something? He turned around to face him. "Yeah, hello," He said again, this time putting more emotion into it. "Do you, like, need something? Are you lost? Are you looking for the toilet? Look, if you need some money, I don't have any..."
He didn't know what Kung Lao was after, but that covered all the obvious bases.
"Oh, no," Kung Lao replied, keeping a friendly smile on his face, "I just thought since you had said hello to me, I should greet you back. Sorry, I didn't mean to trouble you if you're in a hurry."
Hopefully he hadn't bothered the man too much. He had just merely wanted to be polite, after all.
"Oh, hello, Kung Lao!" Neil moved back towards the monk. Kung Lao? That was an interesting name. "My name's Neil.
This was off to a good start. The hippie loomed over the man and looked him over. Yeah, he was definitely Asian, no question. He'd run into the odd individual of Asian decent in his old life, but not enough to have interacted too deeply. He wondered if all the things he'd read about Asians being naturally intoned with nature was true. After all, meditation had originated somewhere over there, hadn't it?
Neil, if he registered the question, chose not to answer. "You're, like, into meditation, yeah?" He didn't wait for an answer before continuing. "I try to meditate every day, but, like, sometimes it's really hard to stay focused. Could you maybe, like, lead the meditation?"
WOOOO A MEDITATION BUDDY1st4earthrealmDecember 28 2008, 06:18:13 UTC
Kung Lao's eyes lit up. Neil liked to meditate too? Really?! Kung Lao had tried to get Siro and Taja to meditate with him a time or two back in Zhu Zin, but neither had been particularly interested. In fact, Siro had fallen asleep and Taja had just been sassy about the whole experience. It was okay, of course; they were Kung Lao's friends and he sincerely didn't mind if they didn't enjoy meditation...but it made him very excited to hear that the man now in front of him did.
"Yes, I meditate every day!" Kung Lao said, "and would be glad to help you if you wanted some tips."
He debated adding that, if done properly, meditation could bring visions of what to come. But, as all his visions in recent memory had been quite disturbing, Kung Lao figured it was best to hold off mentioning that detail.
Neil smiled. He knew Kung Lao meditated! And he was willing to help him? That was almost too good to be true. There was probably some hideous shoe waiting to drop, but it didn't matter at the moment.
"So, like, you know how to do it the right way, yeah? Is there a secret that, like, you've been keeping from Westerners that you could tell me...?"
"You mean, like a secret technique?" Kung Lao chuckled. "No, there's no secret method to meditation. It's really all about focus. If you can do that, well, then you will get the full benefits of meditating."
He stopped a moment and looked at Neil. Well, Neil did seem sincerely interested in meditation, but...for some reason, he didn't strike Kung Lao as the sort of guy who could truly focus his mind and body to get the optimal experience out of the meditating practice. Well, at least Neil wanted to meditate- that was what mattered most!
Neil leaned in, lowering his voice and looking expectant. "Yeah, but, like, what's the secret to focusing. You are all, like, so good at it and I can't do it for more than a few hours without, like, assistance. There's some secret, right?"
How lucky he was to have met Kung Lao and be able to ask such things!
Kung Lao kept the smile on his face. "No secret, really!" he replied, "as I said, it's all about focus. I can try and help you learn how to focus better, but most of the work you'll have to do yourself!"
Neil seemed like a nice guy, if a little ignorant, Kung Lao mused to himself.
Kung Lao had intended to explore the ship and get himself acquainted with his new environment; besides, he wasn't particularly hungry at the moment. However, Neil seemed like a nice guy. Could he possibly become a friend here?
"Thank you for the invitation," Kung Lao answered, "but I'm afraid right now I'd like to continue to look around a bit. Maybe next time?"
He paused a minute, realizing he had forgot to ask his new contact an important question. "By the way- you're a warden, aren't you?"

"Oh, I'm not in a hurry. I'm just going to eat." He smiled slightly. "It's so nice not to do all the cooking here..."

He paused a moment. "I'm new to this barge, so I don't really know where most things are yet. My name's Kung Lao. What's your name?"

"Wow," He remarked, "Very zen."
