Eddie was sure some of these must have a barcode, because one of them really did remind him of a Rhinosaurus. At least, one of the ones he'd seen from a distance. He was looking for smaller ones which might provide something more informative.

Either way, he had come across something small and asleep. That looked promising, and just as he was about to inspect further, he heard Victor shout him, "Over here, Victor!"

And the dinosaur woke up. It didn't look too pleased. Were those eggs? "Oh plums."

At the sound of Eddie's voice, Victor changed direction abruptly. It didn't take long to find Eddie, looking at something rather large on the ground. Something that appeared to be breathing. And waking up. Victor stayed very still.

If there was one thing that he'd learned in the arctic, it was that a man could eat more or less any animal that he came across. The second thing he'd learned that almost every animal was likely to attempt to kill or maim any human it came across as well. It had lead to something interesting confrontations. But not with any creatures similar to dinosaur.

"Warden! Flee! The creature will not take kindly to your presence." Victor said helpfully, backing away himself. He wished desperately that he had a weapon.

"I don't want to startle it." He started to back off slowly, as it was starting to look incredibly angry about Eddie's presence. This was when Eddie spotted something underneath his foot which made a crunching noise. That would be an egg.

He hadn't seen it as everything was one shade of grey or another and an egg hadn't really stood out.

"Victor. RUN." At this, he turned and fled, because he knew that angry mother animals were not good.

Victor's mouth may have dropped open just a little bit at the sight of Eddie stepping onto an egg. He'd hadn't noticed it until the crunch, but once he did he also noticed the fact that the dinosaur herself had noticed it. He didn't need to be told twice to run. He started running, fast.

"Edward!" Victor shouted back over his shoulder as he headed for the trees, looking desperately for some thicker undergrowth. "We must venture into the depths of the jungle, where it cannot pursue us!"

It was amazing how, even when short of breath, he still managed such lengthy sentences.

Eddie followed Victor, glancing over his shoulder for an angry dinosaur, and flailed a little before jumping into a nearby bush and hoping he wouldn't be spotted, and tried to wave Victor over without making too big a show of himself.

Victor turned to see that his warden had apparently jumped into a bush, judging by the waving that he could see. Victor darted to the side, making his way over there quickly. He didn't know if it was the best hiding place, but if he was going to perish in this port he may as well do it with his warden. Despite his feelings about death on the barge, it seemed to be the gentlemanly thing to do.

"It may find us." Victor hissed as he ducked behind the bush. "It will not be pleasant."

"I know, but it can run faster than us, I bet." He gave Victor a hopeful look, and then squatted down as low as he could get in the undergrowth, watching the dinosaur through the bushes. It seemed a little confused and Eddie found himself holding his breath nervously.

"This is likely." Victor said, as he lowered himself to the ground as well, looking closely at the dinosaurs anatomy. As far as he could see, it was a creature built for speed and killing. The shape of its legs and jaws indicated that.

"I have witnessed preferable ports." Victor sighed under his breath after a moment.

He watched it closely, a little impressed, but it angrily rushed past, and Eddie tried not to breathe a sigh of relief, "The last one was much better, I have to say."

"I prefer it. Salem was the superior port that I have intended. You would have enjoyed it greatly. It was the world of many on the barge." Victor watched the dinosaur going, not getting up just yet. He didn't trust it not to rush back.

"Oh, is it?" He paused, unsure whether he should ask or not, and was keeping a good eye on the dinosaur, "What was it like? This place in the Previous' world?"

"It was unlike the world that I knew. They had a great many strange things. It suited them." Victor said after a moment, shaking his head. It had been very different, but then again so were the people of the future.

"I should hope the dinosaur is now distracted." Victor continued, although he wasn't really sure. He was very sick of the bush though, which for the moment was reason enough.

"Did you find anything interesting?" He peered out from behind the bush and had a look for the dinosaur, "I think we're alright if we go the other direction. And... um, don't step on any eggs."

"I saw carts without horses. That was most notable. Their customs were strange also." Victor started untangling himself from the bush, frowning at the damage he'd done to his clothes. "I shall also keep an eye out for these eggs, despite their potential scientific value."

"Oh, you mean cars?" Eddie nodded and started picking his way through the leaves, "You can probably see them better than me. And let's not start taking these bitey things back to the barge, hm?"
